Cole Palmer was left out of the squad for this summer's tournament

Cole Palmer has been spotted enjoying time away in Ibiza after being left out of Thomas Tuchel's England squad for this summer's World Cup.

The Chelsea star was one of the most eye-catching omissions when Tuchel named his travelling party, with the decision prompting widespread discussion among supporters and pundits alike.

While England's players have been settling into life in Florida ahead of the tournament, Palmer appears to have opted for a very different way of spending his summer.

The 24-year-old was seen at Ocean Beach Club in Ibiza, one of the island's most famous celebrity hotspots and a regular destination for Premier League footballers during the off-season.

Palmer was photographed alongside Wayne Lineker at the venue, with the pair appearing relaxed as they sat together in the sunshine.

In a detail quickly noticed by fans online, Palmer appeared to be wearing the same outfit he sported during a previous visit to the club last summer.

The Chelsea midfielder was dressed in a white T-shirt, camouflage shorts and trainers, while also wearing his trademark chain.

His appearance came as England's World Cup preparations gathered pace across the Atlantic following the squad's arrival in the United States.

Palmer's absence from that group remains one of the tournament's biggest selection talking points.

The attacking midfielder headed into the season with high expectations after emerging as one of England's most exciting young talents during Euro 2024.

However, his form dipped significantly during the campaign and he struggled to produce the same levels of influence that had previously made him one of the Premier League's standout performers.

Palmer later revealed he had spent much of the season battling a troublesome groin injury, which affected his performances and limited his ability to consistently impact matches.

Despite returning to fitness towards the end of the campaign, Tuchel ultimately decided to look elsewhere.

Explaining his decision, the England manager pointed to both form and availability concerns.

"I think he suffers from a lack of individual form within the club," Tuchel said.

"He was not as decisive or as influential as he was in previous seasons."

Tuchel also admitted Palmer had not made the impact he had hoped for during international camps.

"His record with us was not outstanding, not good enough to make him a player who comes no matter what," he explained.

"It was one of the most difficult phone calls, of course."

The German added that he was unwilling to select players based purely on reputation.

"I refuse to bring players for the name," he said.

Palmer is not the only high-profile England absentee making the most of some unexpected free time.

Harry Maguire has been enjoying a family holiday in Barbados after admitting he was "shocked and gutted" to miss out despite an encouraging season with Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Phil Foden has also been relaxing abroad with his family following his own exclusion.
