The American businessman led the takeover of Chelsea almost two years ago

Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf claims Todd Boehly has 'destroyed' the Stamford Bridge club and has warned it will take a long time to recover.

The Blues suffered a hugely disappointing 2-2 draw at home to second-bottom Burnley on Saturday, who had played over half of the game with 10 men.

It has been a miserable season in the Premier League for Mauricio Pochettino after taking the reins last summer.

Despite over £1billion being spent in the transfer market in the last two years, Chelsea sit 11th in the table and a huge 19 points off the top four.

Chelsea made it to the final of the Carabao Cup, where they lost to a depleted Liverpool team, and are in the semi-final of the FA Cup.

But a manager often lives and dies by a team's league form and it has been far below the standard Chelsea have largely set for the past two decades.

Boehly headed the new ownership group in May 2022 following the departure of Roman Abramovich, which has since become known as BlueCo.

And Leboeuf, who won five major trophies at Chelsea between 1996 and 2001, has laid blame firmly on the American for his approach to buying younger players.

The Frenchman told ESPN: "Sorry, but the people on the board have destroyed this club. That's what you have to face.

"How do you rebuild that? I don't know, it's going to take a long time.

"I've talked about it a lot and I'm fed up repeating myself... as long as you don't have people to rely on, meaning experienced players, you can't build anything.

"This is what you face when you're trying to build an Academy team."

Chelsea took the lead on Saturday after Lorenz Assignon was sent off and Cole Palmer scored the resulting penalty.

But Burnley, who have won just four matches this season, didn't give up and equalised just after half-time through Josh Cullen.

Palmer, one of the few shining lights this season, restored the hosts' lead before Dara O'Shea again equalised for the visitors.

Leboeuf says the Chelsea players don't have a clue how to perform at the top level on a consistent basis and says Burnley deserved to win the match.

He added: "The Chelsea players have no stamina, nothing in their heart, nothing in their brain, they don't know what to do.

"It's unprofessional and unfair to the people who love this club. I'm fed up. 10-men Burnley should have won the game. Chelsea Football Club against Burnley... that's the end of it.

"I want to congratulate the fans for still being able to go to Stamford Bridge to watch that."

Pochettino admitted afterwards that the performance was way below the level he requires.

The Argentine said: "We are very disappointed and frustrated in the way that in the second half we didn’t manage to deal with the situation.

"We are a team that when we play in possession and go forward are capable of creating many chances, but we didn’t score with the chances we created. We need to increase our percentage of goals.

"Today we didn’t show the capacity, the energy, the hunger that is the minimum to compete in the Premier League."
