Barcelona have now lifted this trophy three times in the past four seasons

Barcelona claimed their 16th Spanish Super Cup trophy after edging past Real Madrid 3-2 in a thrilling final held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday evening.

Brazilian winger Raphinha proved the match-winner with a brace, his second goal arriving in the 73rd minute when his right-footed effort took a decisive deflection off defender Raul Asencio to wrong-foot goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

The victory marks back-to-back Super Cup triumphs for Hansi Flick's side, who also defeated Los Blancos in last year's showpiece.

Barcelona have now lifted this trophy three times in the past four seasons.

Raphinha had earlier broken the deadlock in the 36th minute, firing low past Courtois after waiting for Aurelien Tchouameni to commit before threading his shot through the midfielder's legs.

The first half concluded in extraordinary fashion, with three goals arriving just before the midpoint.

Vinicius Jr sparked the late drama two minutes into added time, collecting the ball near the halfway line before embarking on a mesmeric run.

The Brazilian nutmegged Jules Kounde, skipped past Pau Cubarsi, and slotted into the far corner for his first Real Madrid goal since 4 October 2025, ending a 17-match barren spell.

Barcelona responded almost immediately through Robert Lewandowski, who latched onto Pedri's through ball and delicately lifted his finish off the post and in during the 49th minute.

Real struck back moments later when Gonzalo Garcia bundled home from close range following a corner, with Dean Huijsen's header having struck the crossbar in the build-up. Flick protested that the half-time whistle should already have sounded.

The second half produced further chances at both ends as the contest remained finely balanced.

Vinicius Jr continued to threaten, forcing Joan Garcia into a save in the 52nd minute before setting up Rodrygo ten minutes later, only for the Barcelona goalkeeper to deny him again.

The decisive moment arrived when Flick's substitutes combined to create the winner.

Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo linked up before finding Raphinha, who struck hopefully on his weaker right foot from the edge of the area.

The shot cannoned off Asencio's shin, altering its trajectory sufficiently to leave Courtois stranded as the ball nestled in the net.

It was Raphinha's fourth goal across the two Super Cup matches this week, having also netted twice in Barcelona's 5-0 semi-final demolition of Athletic Club.

The closing stages turned chaotic when Frenkie de Jong was dismissed in the 90th minute for a reckless two-footed challenge on Kylian Mbappe, who had entered as a substitute following recovery from a knee injury.

Down to ten men, Barcelona brought on Ronald Araujo for Lamine Yamal to shore up their defence during five minutes of added time.

Real Madrid pressed for an equaliser that would have forced penalties, but squandered their best opportunity when left-back Alvaro Carreras found himself unmarked inside the penalty area.

The Spaniard struck his effort straight at Joan Garcia.

Marcus Rashford had a chance to seal matters for Barcelona but fired wide, while Courtois ventured forward for a final corner that came to nothing.
