The heat on Centre Court became too much for some spectators at Wimbledon

Play was suspended twice during Aryna Sabalenka's Wimbledon semi-final against Amanda Anisimova as spectators required medical attention in sweltering conditions on Centre Court.

The world number one immediately halted play and rushed to help fans struggling in temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius.

The Belarusian grabbed water bottles and ice packs from her chair, delivering them to distressed spectators in the East Stand.

The first incident occurred midway through the opening set with the players locked at deuce in the sixth game.

Umpire Damien Dumusois telephoned for assistance as stewards attended to a supporter who appeared to have collapsed in the intense heat.

BBC commentator Tracy Austin observed: "Sabalenka is going to get some water. Quick thinking."

The 27-year-old made a beeline for her bag before walking across the court to deliver the water bottle to the affected area.

"Here she comes, just as Carlos Alcaraz did," noted BBC commentator Nick Mullins, referencing an earlier incident when the Spaniard helped a spectator in similar circumstances.

Sabalenka's compassionate actions earned warm applause from the Centre Court crowd as play was suspended for approximately four minutes.

The match resumed after the first interruption, but a second medical emergency occurred during a changeover at 5-4 in Anisimova's favour.

Another spectator in the crowd fell ill, prompting Sabalenka to spot them and again head over with a bottle of water.

"We're looking at the sort of heat that you wouldn't want to spend a long time sitting in," said David Law, commentating on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"Anyone who has got a ticket here to come to semi-finals day is thrilled and doesn't want to move and wants to see every ball, but these are tough conditions, this is seriously hot."

Both spectators were able to leave the arena on their feet to warm applause after receiving medical attention.

Despite her compassionate interventions, Sabalenka struggled to maintain her focus as the match progressed.

The American Anisimova capitalised on the disruptions, taking the first set after 56 minutes.
