The Gunners' win over the bottom-placed team could come at a cost

Arsenal fans were left fearing the worst after both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli were substituted during their huge 6-0 win over Sheffield United.

Saka was taken off at half-time at Bramall Lane, while Martinelli limped off with 25 minutes of the match remaining in Yorkshire.

Arsenal have been the form team in front of goal in 2024 and they were at their scintillating best again on Monday, becoming the first team in English Football League history to win by five or more goals in three consecutive away games.

Mikel Arteta's side were 4-0 up within 25 minutes in Yorkshire and made it five just before half-time in an emphatic performance.

Gabriel Martinelli

They added a sixth in a quieter second half as they again closed the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the table.

But potential injuries to Saka and Martinelli were of a big concern to fans on social media.

Saka didn't come back out for the second half and supporters will hope Arteta confirms he was just rested in his post-match interview.

But Martinelli clearly suffered some sort of injury and had to be helped off the pitch when replaced by the returning Gabriel Jesus.

Arsenal know they will need both Saka and Martinelli fit and firing if they are to win their first title in 20 years.

And supporters revealed their worries when the Brazilian went off injured.

One fan wrote on X: "Martinelli and Saka are off due to injury scares. At what cost is this Sheffield United Win??? Hope they recover quickly unless our season is doomed!!!"

While another put: "Injuries for Saka and Martinelli."

A third fan wrote: "Injuries man. Hope Saka and GABBI are ok."

And another posted: "Saka and Nelli injuries at Bramall Lane. Hmmmmm."

Many are hoping that Saka was just rested by Arteta, with one fan writing: "Better be resting Saka and no injury."

While another fan said: "Martinelli injured, Saka having a rest."

Bukayo Saka

Arsenal have now scored 31 goals in their last seven Premier League matches.

Captain Martin Odegaard opened the scoring in the fifth minute before Jayden Bogle turned into his own goal.

Martinelli scored with a deflected strike before Kai Havertz netted his third in as many games.

Declan Rice scored his side's fifth before half-time before Ben White got in on the act with a powerful left-footed strike before the hour mark.

Gabriel Martinelli

Arteta was able to ring the changes, with Thomas Partey making his first appearance since October.

Fabio Vieira came on to replace Saka at the break, while Jesus also got valuable minutes.

Arsenal can go top of the table if they beat Brentford in their next match on Saturday evening.

They now have a goal difference of +45, which is 10 better than City and six clear of leaders Liverpool.
