The Dutchman acknowledged his side's short-comings in the opening three fixtures in the campaign

Arne Slot has revealed a tactical tweak he made against Arsenal that was strangely inspired by Jamie Carragher.

The Dutchman saw his side carry on their perfect league start with a narrow 1-0 victory over Arsenal, courtesy of a Dominik Szoboszlai stunner.

The Hungarian thrashed a thunderous free-kick past David Raya and into the net from 32 yards away, with the Gunners unable to find a response in the remaining 15 minutes.

After the game, Slot opened up to Sky Sports on one major tactical tweak he made to his side that had been inspired by Jamie Carragher.

"Listening to Jamie [Carragher]. He thought we were far too open against Bournemouth so we thought let's make it a boring game.

"On a more serious note, they took the risk of going 1v1, this was hard because they brought all the midfielders so close to the defence.

"Then in the second half we went 1v1 but with Szoboszlai playing close and three midfielders. In the second half we pressed really well so for me after 45 minutes we got the upper hand. In the end we needed a moment of magic.

"If you win against a team like Arsenal, who last season were such a good team and have strengthened so much, to win against them is very positive. We will know at the end of the season what it's worth."

While their squad appears settled, Slot confirmed there would be more business with deadline day around the corner.

The Dutchman revealed he knew it would be "quite busy", with any deal for Alexander Isak or Marc Guehi still a long way away from being completed.

"[I expect it to be] Quite busy because I have to take a flight at two o'clock! On a serious note, let's wait and see. I haven't spoken to [sporting director] Richard [Hughes] yet.

"I don't think it's a surprise we are trying to see if we can strengthen the squad but if that isn't possible we are more than happy to do that with this team."

The afternoon could have been more simple for the Reds, with new striker Hugo Ekitike grabbing his third goal for the club in as many games - only to see it chalked off for offside.

But the striker was still in good spirits after the game, speaking to the BBC, he said: "Obviously, that was a really important game for us. Arsenal - nine points today. It was a tough game.

"We don't have many chances to score. Dominik [Szoboszlai] scored an amazing free-kick. We have to say thank you to him. It is still the start of the season, and we are going to have the international break, and we have to come back and be on the same page."

The 23-year-old then opened up on his start o life on Merseyside: "It has been fast. The boys did well to introduce me into the team. I am very comfortable. It gave me so much confidence here, and I feel like I can score every game.

"It means a lot. It is about mindset - all the guys in this team are on the same page. We work together, that is why we make the differences in the games when it is difficult."
