Arne Slot has been slammed by fans after his bizarre excuse for Liverpool’s poor form in recent weeks following their Champions League victory against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Their nightmare run finally came to an end in Germany last night, after the Reds recorded a 5-1 rout to put an end to their woes - for now.
Goals from Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Cody Gakpo, and Dominik Szoboszlai ultimately put Frankfurt to the sword, but league form remains a cause for concern.
Consecutive defeats against Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Manchester United, with Galatasaray beating them in the Champions League, meant four losses in a row for the first time since Brendan Rodgers was at the helm.

And while they returned to winning form in emphatic fashion on Wednesday evening, boss Slot does not believe it was down to their own play, but rather their opponents.
The Dutch manager has hilariously claimed the victory is down to Frankfurt playing the ball on the ground as opposed to in the air - something they have had to deal with against their recent opponents.

“The biggest exception for me was the playing style of our opponent,” Slot said after the game.
“We got some energy out of the moments we could press them — in the last four or five games we've played, we were not able to press the opponent, because the ball wasn't on the ground. It was through the air.”

With a trip to Brentford coming this weekend, Slot should be expecting a barrage of balls in the air and long throw-ins, such has become somewhat of a trademark at the Gtech Community Stadium this season.
And fans have been quick to ridicule the boss for his comments that clearly highlight his side's Achilles heel for any opposing manager potentially preparing to face the champions.

Writing on X, one fan said: “Yeah Arne, it’ll be back in the air on Saturday night.”
Another slammed Slot, writing: “World's biggest idiot for two reasons: 1. He expects opposition to play the way he wants them to play 2. Publicly saying his team is weaker against long balls.”

A third asked: “Bro is saying can you guys play out from the back and keep it in the ground so we can press win the ball high and finally win?”
While a fourth said: “Excuses, excuses, excuses!! He wants his opponents to play in his preferred style. What a load of bull. Crystal Palace, Chelsea didn't play the ball in the air. They played Liverpool off the park.”

The comments appear to be a strange admission, inadvertently inviting Brentford to hammer long balls into Liverpool’s box, which is clearly a winning formula against the champions.
After winning their opening five Premier League fixtures, Liverpool are now on a barren run of three consecutive losses that has seriously hampered their title defence.

Arsenal have soared past the Merseyside club to establish a three-point lead at the summit of the table, already finding themselves four points above Slot’s side.
After Brentford, Liverpool face Aston Villa and Manchester City in the Premier League as they look to close the gap to the Gunners.
They also host Crystal Palace, who beat them 2-1 just last month, in the Carabao Cup before a huge European crunch match against Spanish giants Real Madrid.
The fixture against Jude Bellingham and co is a repeat of two Champions League finals in recent memory - 2017/18 and 2021/22 - in which Liverpool have lost both.
