Phil Mickelson has found himself at the centre of another political storm after launching into a heated exchange about immigration enforcement on social media.
The veteran golfer fired back at New York congressman Dan Goldman, who'd urged the NYPD to step in if federal agents acted unlawfully against New Yorkers.
On social media, he said: “No one is above the law — not ICE, not CBP, and not Donald Trump. Federal agents who assault or detain New Yorkers without legal authority must be held accountable and the NYPD must protect our neighbours if the federal government refuses to."
"This is amazing," Mickelson wrote on X in response. "You can threaten to arrest federal officers, ignore victim's needs, but illegals committing crimes are free to go. You don't even see the problem here. THATS THE PROBLEM!!"
When challenged about people being unlawfully detained by federal agents, the 55-year-old doubled down: “Illegally is how they entered the country, not their detainment," he responded.
It is not the first time the golfer has voiced his political opinion. He took aim at the recent No Kings protests that saw millions of Americans take to the streets opposing President Trump's administration.

"On this special day as we all gather to fight against blanket auto pen pardons and executive orders, lawlessness, and stealing citizen's resources for illegal non citizens, I believe it has worked," Mickelson posted sarcastically on Saturday.
His message mocked the movement whilst taking swipes at Biden-era policies. The LIV Golf star made it clear he wasn't impressed by the demonstrations that filled Times Square, the National Mall, and cities across America.
Instead, he praised last month's gatherings honouring Charlie Kirk, the conservative influencer who was fatally shot at a Utah university event.
This is amazing 😂😂

THATS THE PROBLEM!!
"With all these people no one is lying in streets blocking traffic, no violence, no fires or looting. Just a peaceful gathering to honour a special man," Mickelson wrote on the Kirk memorial.
He condemned those who supported Tyler Robinson, the man arrested in connection with the shooting after a 33-hour manhunt.
"The assassination of Charlie Kirk is bringing out some of the best in humanity and it's also exposing some of the worst," Mickelson posted.

He expressed shock at "the number of people supporting Tyler Robinson's appalling behaviour," saying it had "shaken my belief in people in general."
Mickelson shared one of Kirk's debates, praising his oratory prowess: "His ability to use words and his intellect to win debates is what scared them," he wrote.

He's thrown his weight behind Daniel Penny, the army veteran acquitted of homicide after placing a homeless man in a fatal chokehold on the New York subway.
"And a hero like Daniel Penny who saved lives is prosecuted. I can't even take you serious," Mickelson hit back at critics.
Just days earlier, he'd pleaded with Trump to intervene in San Francisco. When California Governor Gavin Newsom said nobody wanted federal troops in the city, Mickelson shot back: "This isn't true at all. We are begging for him to come save this former great city (and more)."
His outspoken views have drawn fire from users accusing him of pushing "one side of a political agenda" and "refusing to see both sides" of debates.
