Andoni Iraola is edging closer to becoming Liverpool's next manager after discussions over personal terms gathered pace, with three rival clubs now set to miss out on the highly-rated Spaniard.
The Reds have moved swiftly following the departure of Premier League-winning boss Arne Slot and have identified Iraola as their preferred successor, with negotiations progressing between both parties ahead of the Club World Cup later this month.
The 43-year-old has emerged as the standout candidate for the vacancy at Anfield after enhancing his reputation during an impressive spell with Bournemouth.
Iraola guided the Cherries to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League last season, securing European football and earning widespread praise for his attacking style of play.
Liverpool have already made their opening move and are hopeful an agreement can be reached in the coming days, with sporting director Richard Hughes playing a central role in the process, according to The Sun.
Hughes knows Iraola well from their time together at Bournemouth, having been instrumental in bringing the former defender to the Vitality Stadium before later making the move to Merseyside himself.
The Reds are keen to have their new manager in place before the Club World Cup gets underway on June 11, with talks expected to continue throughout the week.
