Alpine said it 'would like to thank the FIA and Formula One Management for its transparency and co-operation'

Formula One star Pierre Gasly has been reinstated to the podium of the Monaco Grand Prix after having his P3 finish snatched away from him by the stewards.

The Frenchman, who was previously left "heartbroken" after the announcement, has officially achieved his first-ever podium finish at Monaco.

Alpine challenged the original decision had imposed two five-second time penalties on their driver, causing him to tumble from the podium down to seventh position.

Monaco race stewards convened via video conference on Thursday with Alpine and FIA representatives ahead of this weekend's Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix to review the case.

The French constructor's petition was upheld, with confirmation arriving on Friday morning before the first practice session in Spain.

Alpine showed to the stewards that the distance measurement used for calculating pit-lane timing was flawed, resulting in an overestimation of Gasly's actual speed.

The panel accepted this as a "significant and relevant new element" and concluded that Car 10 had not breached the 60 km/h pit-lane limit.

Consequently, Red Bull's Isack Hadjar loses his podium position, while Oscar Piastri of McLaren drops to fifth.

Racing Bulls pair Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad are now classified sixth and seventh, respectively.

Gasly was among five drivers penalised for speeding at Monaco, alongside Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Piastri and Franco Colapinto.

Reacting to the news, Alpine wrote: "We welcome the decision made by the FIA to deem our Right of Review as admissible following the final classification of last weekend's Monaco Grand Prix.

"As a result, the Stewards have rescinded the two five-second penalties imposed on Car 10, which reinstates the team's third-place finish."

The team continued: "We would like to thank the FIA and Formula One Management for its transparency and co-operation throughout the Right of Review process and for reaching this decision.

"The team's focus is now very much on this weekend's Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix and striving for the best possible result with both of its cars."

The Frenchman was previously left "heartbroken" after the race, with footage circulating online of him celebrating his podium finish before it was previously taken away from him.

He said after the race: "I'm just heartbroken. I don't know what to say. I don't want to be speaking right now.

"We all work so hard to get these moments, and then when it gets taken away from you for some things which we need to review.

"The team set the right speed limiter, and I put it way before the line on both times.

"I crossed the line in P3 in Monaco in front of all the fans and all the people here, and in the end we get penalised and finish far away. I don't really know what to say."

The heartbreak has been turned around, with Gasly getting 15 points and his first-ever podium finish at Monaco.
