The Frenchman was relegated from P3 to P7 as he had his podium finish snatched away

Formula 1 star Pierre Gasly admitted he was "heartbroken" to have his podium finish at the Monaco Grand Prix taken away from him due to two pit-lane speeding penalties.

Gasly benefited from the chaotic race, making his way from ninth to fourth, then advancing up to third after George Russell received a late drive-through penalty.

The Frenchman then had penalties handed his own way, after being recorded at 0.1km/h and 0.4km/h over the mandated 60km/h pit-lane speed limit.

Speaking afterwards, Gasly said: "Right now, I'm just heartbroken. I don't know what to say. I don't want to be speaking right now.

"We all work so hard to get these moments, and then when it gets taken away from you for some things which we need to review.

"The team set the right speed limiter, and I put it way before the line on both times.

"I crossed the line in P3 in Monaco in front of all the fans and all the people here, and in the end we get penalised and finish far away. I don't really know what to say."

In a statement after the race, Alpine said: "After the result of today's Monaco Grand Prix, BWT Alpine Formula 1 Team can confirm it has requested a Right of Review from the FIA following the penalties applied for pit lane speeding."

Gasly ended up finishing in seventh place after the penalties, with his fellow Frenchman Isack Hadjar claiming third place.

The Alpine driver shared his heartbreak on social media, writing: "No words can describe the pain of losing a podium in Formula 1 and in the streets Monaco, I'm devastated.

"We crossed the finish line in 3rd today, and that's all I want to remember. I've dreamed about that podium thousands [of] times, we all working very hard for years to achieve moments like today and it doesn't feel right for it to be taken away like this.

"I really hope the right outcome can be made. We will fight for it with my team."

Several drivers received penalties throughout the chaotic race, with Oscar Piastri, Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez all being impacted.

Kimi Antonelli claimed victory in Monaco as he continued his sensational start to the season.

The teenager went into the big event hoping to extend his lead at the top of the standings, having won four races so far.

And Antonelli was once again superior in Monte Carlo, with the 19-year-old clinching his fifth victory from just six attempts as he boosted his hopes of a maiden title.

Big names Lando Norris, Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc were all forced to withdraw, as the young Italian extends his gap at the top.

Speaking afterwards, Antonelli said: "It was one of those days where we had incredible pace. It was just coming all so natural.

"The car was feeling incredible and was just giving me the confidence to push.

"The job isn't finished. It's still a long season. We are going to keep pushing and keep raising the bar. The goal is to keep performing like this."
