The seven-time champion is ready for the summer break

Lewis Hamilton has made an emotional admission as he gets ready for the summer break.

The 40-year-old has struggled so far at Ferrari, having yet to score a grand prix podium in red, and as the season approaches the summer break, his performances have not improved.

He qualified in 18th and 16th respectively for the sprint and main race at the Belgian Grand Prix, while his team-mate Charles Leclerc was up in third.

The 40-year-old has been pushing for structural changes to the Scuderia since he arrived, as he aims to bring them their first championship since 2008.

Hamilton spoke to the media before the Hungarian Grand Prix and revealed: “The last god knows how many seasons have been hard in their own way. This one has definitely been the most intense one, I would say, just from a work perspective.

“Integrating into a new culture and into a new team. It's not gone smoothly in all areas, and it's been a real battle.

"I definitely need to get away and recharge, be around the kids, laugh, let go. I'm sure there'll be some tears at some point and I think that's really healthy.”

Hamilton has had moments of brilliance in the Ferrari , but has struggled to maintain his form throughout the season.

His most notable performance for Ferrari was back in March during the Chinese Grand Prix, which saw him take the sprint pole and win the sprint, but he has not had that same level of performance for the rest of the season.

Despite it being a difficult campaign, which sees him 30 points behind Leclerc, Hamilton is remaining positive.

He continued, "But I'm always excited to race. I love what I do, I love being in red, I love working with this team, I have such belief in this team.

"It's really hard to explain. I already had it a lot when I was in my previous team. Over time, you really build that camaraderie, and I see the passion in this team and I love it.

"All I want to do is contribute the best that I can. Of course I need to do that mostly on track, and I'm not always hitting that, but also in the background.
