Lando Norris became world champion on Sunday for the first time

Lando Norris sealed his first Formula 1 World Championship in dramatic fashion at the weekend, clinching the title by just two points after a nail-biting Abu Dhabi finale.

The moment was made even more special by his heartfelt team radio message following his third-place finish at the Yas Marina Circuit: "I love you Mum, I love you Dad."

It was a touching scene in the paddock as McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, despite his own disappointment at missing out on the championship, showed real class by embracing Norris's parents Adam and Cisca to congratulate them on their son's triumph.

Adam Norris returned the gesture, congratulating Piastri on a brilliant season that saw him claim seven grand prix victories.

So who is the man behind Britain's newest racing hero?

Adam Norris hails from Bristol and built his fortune in the pensions industry.

He founded Pensions Direct in 1998, and just a year later was bought out by Hargreaves Lansdown, where he helped grow the business into Britain's largest direct-to-consumer pension retailer by 2007.

When the company went public in 2008, Adam stepped away as a very wealthy man at just 36 years old.

His net worth is believed to be around £200million, placing him 610th on the 2022 Sunday Times Rich List.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 after his son's victory, Adam revealed the scale of their journey together: "I've done 400 races with Lando."

Lando's mother Cisca is Belgian, and together with Adam she raised their four children – Oliver, Lando, Flo and Cisca Jr – in Somerset, though Lando was actually born in Bristol.

The couple met in Belgium during Adam's early career travels, with what started as a brief introduction through mutual friends blossoming into something deeper built on shared values around family and ambition.

Cisca has been described as the emotional heartbeat of the Norris household, providing balance to the intense, pressure-filled world of motorsport.

Their multicultural home gave Lando exposure to both British structure and Belgian warmth, creating a bilingual environment that shaped his outlook and resilience.

Lando often credits his calm demeanour both on and off the track to his mother's grounding influence.

When asked about the dream of becoming world champion, Adam was refreshingly honest with Nico Rosberg: "No, at the beginning it wasn't. At the beginning, it was just having fun."

He spoke candidly about the sacrifices involved: "A lot of travelling around the world.

"To go-kart tracks, it was an amazing journey, really good fun, went to weird and wonderful places at odd times and just relentless every weekend."

Adam added: "But having fun, a lot of fun, really loved the journey and loved the destination and where we are now.

"A lot of hard work, we probably did more than most of the other people around, and he loved it more than everyone else so it was never painful, but it was hard."

That approach – prioritising passion over pressure and character over results – clearly paid off spectacularly.
