The race will start at 3pm on Sunday

Formula 1 drivers finishing on the podium at today's British Grand Prix will receive specially crafted Lego trophies alongside the traditional awards at Silverstone.

The Danish toy company has created unique brick-built versions of the iconic golden RAC trophy as part of its partnership with F1.

The custom-made trophies will be presented to the top three finishers during this afternoon's podium ceremony.

Whilst the conventional RAC trophy must be returned after the celebration, the drivers will keep their Lego versions as permanent souvenirs.

The initiative represents the latest collaboration between Lego and Formula 1, following the appearance of life-size Lego cars during May's Miami Grand Prix drivers' parade.

The winner's trophy stands at an impressive 59 centimetres tall and weighs two kilograms, constructed from 2,717 individual bricks.

Its distinctive gold colouring was specially created for this occasion and is not available for public purchase.

The constructors' trophy matches the winner's version in construction but incorporates black elements alongside gold to highlight specific details.

Second and third-place finishers will receive smaller versions measuring 43 centimetres, built primarily from white bricks.

The quartet of trophies required 210 work hours to complete, with seven builders at Lego's Billund headquarters in Denmark collaborating on the project.

Each trophy features a miniature Lego car attachment and a signature brick positioned at the top.

Designer Samuel Liltorp Johnson explained the careful balance between tradition and innovation: "We didn't want to present a bright yellow trophy, because we wanted to respect the heritage behind this race and sport."

"So it is inspired by the original RAC trophy that appears here every year, while wanting to celebrate and look to the creativity that is coming out of this sport.

"We've added a little bit of Lego flair to it."

The trophies have been reinforced with glue to withstand podium celebrations.

"The team has built and glued them together, so we don't have a disaster with maybe some champagne being slammed down and the trophy smashing on the ground," Liltorp Johnson added.

"They are made of a combination of standard Lego bricks and Lego Technic, which is more of an engineering style of Lego building and is really strong.

"It has a spine of Lego Technic running all the way through it, so you can actually lift it."

Whilst no commercial replicas are planned, enthusiastic fans could theoretically construct their own versions.

"Everything that you see here, you would be able recreate with the right bricks," Liltorp Johnson said.

"The colour is exclusive to this moment, but you could purchase, if you wanted to, all the bricks that are present in this model."
