Ross Smith played some of the best darts of his life in Hildesheim

Ross Smith produced one of the most remarkable performances in ProTour history at Players Championship 16 in Hildesheim, hitting two nine-dart finishes in a single day whilst winning an astonishing 24 legs in succession.

The English star, known as 'Smudger', completed his extraordinary day by claiming his fifth ProTour title without dropping a single leg in his quarter-final, semi-final or final matches.


Smith defeated Brendan Dolan in the final with an impressive 104.56 average to cap off a truly historic display of darting excellence.

Smith's first nine-darter came in the opening round against Dylan Slevin, setting the tone for his extraordinary day.

He then repeated the feat in the last sixteen against Chris Landman whilst trailing 0-1 to the Dutchman.

Both perfect legs followed the same pattern, with Smith opening with two maximum 180s before completing the nine-darter with a clinical 141 finish.

Despite his second nine-darter, Smith found himself 2-1 down to Landman before rallying to take control of the match, eventually winning 6-3.

What followed was a run of dominance rarely witnessed on the ProTour circuit, as Smith embarked on an incredible streak of 24 consecutive leg wins.

This remarkable sequence saw him win his quarter-final, semi-final and final matches without conceding a single leg to his opponents.

Smith's run actually began in the closing stages of his match against Landman, continuing through his next two and a half matches.

By the time he faced Dolan in the final, 'Smudger' hadn't dropped a leg in over two complete matches.

In the final, Smith continued his extraordinary form, breaking Dolan immediately and extending his leg-winning streak with a 69 checkout on double six.

Dolan had no answer to Smith's relentless scoring power, with 'Smudger' maintaining a 105 average as he surged to a 5-0 lead.

The Northern Irishman missed two opportunities to end Smith's remarkable run of legs.

Smith eventually closed out the match with an 88 checkout on the bull for an 8-0 victory, finishing with five 180s compared to Dolan's solitary maximum.

The victory marks Smith's fifth ProTour title and catapults him back into the world's top 16 rankings.

This impressive performance will significantly boost his position ahead of the upcoming World Matchplay tournament.

Smith's clinical finishing was evident throughout the final, converting 8 of his 14 checkout attempts for an impressive 57.1% success rate.

Dolan, despite throwing eight 100+ scores and seven 140+ visits, failed to capitalise on his three checkout opportunities against the unstoppable Smith.
