Premier League semi-finalist Nathan Aspinall won the European Darts Open on Sunday

Nathan Aspinall suffered an embarrassing slip of the tongue during a live television interview after winning the European Darts Open in Leverkusen, Germany.

The 33-year-old accidentally used the F-word whilst describing his recent good form to host Philip Brzezinski.

Aspinall immediately covered his face in horror after realising his X-rated remark had been broadcast live.

Brzezinski was forced to quickly apologise on air, telling viewers: "Very nearly Nathan. We apologise for the language."

The incident occurred moments after Aspinall had collected his trophy following an 8-6 victory over Damon Heta in Sunday's final.

Aspinall's triumph in Leverkusen earned him a substantial £30,000 prize and marked his second European Tour title of the season.

The victory came just three days after his Premier League disappointment at the O2 Arena, where he reached the semi-finals before losing to eventual winner Luke Humphries.

En route to the final, Aspinall defeated Chris Dobey, Wessel Nijman and Ricardo Pietreczko.

His 8-6 victory over Australian Damon Heta capped off what he described as "an excellent few weeks on the oche" following his recent strong form in the Premier League, where he secured a top-four finish.

Reflecting on his recent resurgence, Aspinall told the interviewer: "I've been through rubbish but I'm getting back there.

"When things are not going your way, you have to keep fighting, digging and believing you can get back to your best. That is what I do."

He continued: "And the last few weeks have been pretty f***ing good."

The moment he uttered those words, Aspinall immediately put his hands over his face and turned away laughing.

Earlier in the interview, he had said: "To bounce back after the defeat on Thursday night, to come here and win this tournament, shows where my game's at at the moment."

Damon Heta was seen giggling to himself after witnessing his opponent's verbal slip-up from the side of the stage.

The Australian appeared amused by the incident, chuckling away as Aspinall turned away in embarrassment.
