Michael van Gerwen was thrashed by Luke Humphries in the final of the German Darts Grand Prix on Monday.

Michael van Gerwen doesn't appear to be worried too about the form of Luke Humphries having already brushed off Luke Littler's recent displays.

The Dutchman looked on course to dominate the Premier League after winning three consecutive nights.

But his form has dipped since his last Premier League night win at the end of February and has only managed to make it past the semi-final stage of the elite competition once in the last five events.

He appeared to have turned a corner at the German Darts Grand Prix over the weekend with resounding wins over Joe Cullen, Jermaine Wattimena and Martin Schindler to reach the final.

However, the 34-year-old warned Humphries that his current dominance won't 'last forever' as he feels confident of returning to the top of the sport.

“At this stage in his career, you need to perform really well if you want to beat him. We all know that," Van Gerwen said.

"I think early doors in the game I had a few chances but my scoring wasn’t good enough and fair play to him.

“I think, at this moment, he’s the best player (in the world). We all have to face him, we have to battle and we have to make sure that we can get back on top.

"He also knows that this isn’t going to last forever, you’re not always going to throw a 112 average, but he’s playing some cracking darts and I have to admit that.

“It’s a good time for myself, of course, there’s a lot of negatives but also a lot of positives and my form has come on from far so to reach a final here is a big positive.

"I think it was a good tournament, I’m pleased.”

Van Gerwen's comments come just days after he took a bizarre swipe at Littler despite losing emphatically to the teenager.

The three-time world champion has never been lacking in self confidence and - much like after his loss to Humphries - Van Gerwen dismissed the loss by issuing a warning to Littler.

He said: "I have now played Luke six times, three of which I lost and three of which I won.

"Every time he won against me it was not convincing, while he does against other players.

"I just have to take advantage of that, which is still a downside that it didn't work out tonight."
