The Englishman scored his 100th 180 of the Premier League season in the match

Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen have left fans in disbelief, missing 21 darts at a double between them.

In hysterics that got the noisy Leeds crowd involved, neither world-class darts player could check out on the first leg.

The Englishman started off with three darts at tops, putting his first one over, then hitting a single 20 before hitting the inside of D10.

It was then Van Gerwen's turn, who failed to check out tops in three of his attempts.

Littler then failed to check out D10 before the Dutchman missed two darts at double five.

The 19-year-old then ended up busting before Van Gerwen missed another three double.

Littler finally got it done with a double two, lifting his arms up in the air sarcastically to the cheers of the Leeds crowd.

Sky Sports Darts commentator Glen Durrant said: "What are we witnessing here?

"Michael van Gerwen will be throwing his next darts absolutely furious. Maybe Littler's is down to his disrupted preparation?"

Littler would eventually get the job done as the game went down to the wire, winning 6-5 and advancing to the semi-finals.

The Englishman also got his 100th 180 of the Premier League season in the match - something he would prefer to remember rather than the 11 missed doubles.

Speaking ahead of night 14, Littler shared he is keen to break his own records.

He said: "Obviously, I always want to be top of the table.

"Now I want to chase and hopefully break my own records.

"I can definitely say I'm relaxed now. I saw before play that me and Jonny (Clayton) had the Q (on the table) so I knew I was going back to the O2 for the third consecutive year.

"Now I can go chasing my records. Three nights left, I'll try and grab as many nightly wins as I can."

Humphries, who beat Josh Rock in the quarter-finals, has won the last two events in Leeds and is in desperate need of a treble.

"It's my favourite night of the year in the Premier League and where I get the best support," the world number two said.

He continued: "It's always something that I look forward to at the start of the season.

"The good thing for me is I need these points more than ever. The last two years, I didn't really need them. It might make me up for it even more than I usually am.

"It was a massive game against Michael last week. I've put myself right back in the game."
