The world No 2 beat Luke Woodhouse on Saturday night

Luke Humphries has opened up after hitting a sensational nine-darter during his Winmau World Masters triumph over Luke Woodhouse on Saturday night.

The 30-year-old edged a tight affair 4-3 to book his place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

The standout moment came when Humphries delivered a brilliant nine-darter, with the crowd inside the Milton Keynes venue roaring their approval.

Speaking after his win, the world No 2 revealed that he spoke to Woodhouse after his exploits and confessed he was running off adrenaline.

"It’s the third one in less than 12 months," he told ITV when asked about the achievement. "I felt it was going to go on the double 12 and I was happy I was off to the break after that as the heartrate was going.

"But I had to win the match. If you don’t, it’s not worth anything.

“After I hit the nine, I said to Luke: 'Thank God it’s a break.'

"It’s adrenalin. You feel like a kid. Don’t get over excited, but you have to win a game. It was really close. Luke played really well.

“He showed a lot of bottle to put me under pressure in every leg. He’s hitting his peak and his world is his oyster. He’s taken the next step now.”

Humphries, who faces Dutchman Danny Noppert in the last eight, added: "It was a really close game.

"I would rather win the game and not hit a nine-darter than hit a nine-darter and lose, so I am just glad I did both."

Meanwhile, Luke Littler remains in contention for glory after overcoming Ross Smith.

The 19-year-old, who is the reigning World Champion, stormed into the next round with a 4-1 victory.

But Littler said in his post-match interview that he'd had to contend with a heckler during the proceedings - and dubbed the fan in question an 'idiot' for attempting to disrupt both himself and his opponent.

"Obviously, it's the tournament I've not won and like I said yesterday, just keep your head down, don't react to anything," said the youngster.

"A few things in the crowd again at the very front. And even Ross said when we went off at 3-1, he's an idiot, that guy, whoever it was.

"I didn't know who it was, but it was just throughout the game.

"So even Ross obviously seen it, but like I said at the Worlds, just don't react and get the job done."

Littler added: "I mean, obviously, if I'm winning, then it doesn't really matter.

"After the second set, one of the security came over to me and said: 'What did he say?' And I just said: 'Oh nothing. It doesn't really matter.'

"I've won the set, it doesn't really matter.

"I got the job done. That's all that matters."
