Two members of Australia’s women’s cricket team were reportedly subjected to inappropriate behaviour by a man on a motorcycle while walking near their hotel in Indore, India, on Thursday morning.
Local police have since confirmed an arrest in connection with the incident, which took place as the players made their way to a nearby café ahead of their final Women’s World Cup group match against South Africa.
According to Indian media reports, the man allegedly approached the two players and behaved indecently before leaving the scene.
The Australian team’s security manager, Danny Simmons, immediately informed local authorities, and a formal complaint was lodged at the MIG police station later that evening.
Cricket Australia released an official statement acknowledging the incident and confirming that it had been reported to local law enforcement.
“CA can confirm two members of the Australian women’s team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a café in Indore,” the statement read.
“The matter was reported by team security to police, who are handling the matter.”
Police in Indore launched a rapid investigation, identifying and detaining a suspect on Thursday evening.
The man, reported to be 30 years old, was taken into custody after what authorities described as a coordinated search operation involving both local officers and Australian security personnel.
Indore’s Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajesh Dandotiya, confirmed the arrest, praising the swift cooperation between Indian police and the visiting team’s security detail.

“We received a complaint from the Australian security team that two players faced inappropriate behaviour while returning to the hotel from a café,” Dandotiya said.
“A case was registered on Thursday night, and the accused was arrested following an intensive strategic operation.”
Officials in Indore have reportedly assured the Australian delegation that heightened security measures will remain in place for the remainder of their stay.
Local police are said to be maintaining close contact with the team’s management to ensure the players’ safety and privacy are respected.
Neither player involved has been named, in accordance with Australian and Indian privacy laws.
Cricket Australia has also declined to provide further details, citing the ongoing nature of the police inquiry and the personal welfare of the athletes concerned.
Team representatives have confirmed that both players are being supported by staff and have remained with the squad as preparations continue for Saturday’s fixture.
The incident comes as the Australian side look to consolidate their position at the top of the Women’s World Cup standings.
They currently lead the points table but must defeat South Africa to guarantee first place.
Securing that position would set up a semi-final clash against India in Navi Mumbai on October 30, while a defeat would see them face England in Guwahati on October 29.
Authorities have stressed that the investigation remains active and that full cooperation is being provided to ensure accountability.
The Australian team is expected to continue its tour schedule as planned, with additional security protocols now in effect both at the hotel and during team movements around the city.
