The 25-year-old has opened up after the dramatic finale at the Oval

India captain Shubman Gill has hailed Chris Woakes' bravery after the England star came out to bat one-handed in Monday's dramatic series finale.

The visitors were able to level the series, with Mohammed Siraj removing Gus Atkinson to give India a six-run win.

Woakes, however, was the big talking point.

The England star injured his shoulder earlier in the Test and is set to miss the Ashes later this year.

However, despite being in pain, Woakes came out to bat one-handed with his left arm in a sling.

And his decision to do so has seen him hailed by Gill, with the India captain astonished by what he witnessed.

"I didn't expect him to come out like that, batting with one hand. Kudos to him," he said.

The India star was also pleased that his side were able to level the series, having previously looked set for defeat.

"The spell from Siraj and Prasidh [Krishna] really changed the game for us and those are the ones that kept believing we can pull this game through.

"With 60, 70-odd runs to win with seven wickets in hand you don't get to see many games like this.

"Very happy to get this over the line, a little bit of luck for us.

"This is cricket. You never know. Once you're in the game, you want to be ruthless as possible and not give the opposition any bit of of space but with a couple of wickets after [Harry] Brook, we had that little bit of space and it's never easy with the ball swinging and the pressure on the opposition, not easy to bat, so we wanted to make sure they kept feeling the pressure."

Other India players have also reacted to the drama.

KL Rahul was delighted, with the 33-year-old expressing a belief his side will benefit from the experience going forward.

He said: "Obviously nothing compares to winning the World Cup but the way we have played in this series...

"For us as a team that wasn't given a chance in this series, for us to fight back and fight in every game and get a result which is 2-2.

"It might seem like a draw but for Indian Test cricket going into the future it will rank right at the top.

"From this, we will go on and win many more series outside of India."

And Siraj, who won the player of the match award, said: "To be honest, it is so amazing.

"From day one to here, everyone fought so hard so we are very happy.

"I just wanted to make sure I hit the right areas, the wickets would fall, and anything else would be a bonus.

"When I woke up I believed I could do it.

"I took a screenshot of something on Google that said believe because I wanted to put it out there today."
