Kai Rooney was brutally trolled by an opponent on Saturday, with his rival mimicking one of his father's most iconic goal celebrations.

With Wayne Rooney watching from the stands alongside wife Coleen, Manchester United's U16s were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Southampton in the SuperCup NI final on Saturday.

The match’s only goal came in the second half, courtesy of Jude Daniels, who not only scored a brilliantly worked team goal but added insult to injury with a celebration straight out of the Rooney playbook.

After slotting home from close range following a slick Saints move reminiscent of Manchester City's best, Daniels celebrated by mimicking Rooney’s legendary "knockout" routine — two air punches followed by a theatrical tumble to the ground.

The celebration famously originated from Wayne's response to a leaked video of him sparring with ex-teammate Phil Bardsley in 2015, which he later turned into a viral goal celebration against Spurs at Old Trafford.

Daniels’ moment of flair proved decisive. Despite a spirited response from United, including Kai smashing a shot into the side netting, the young Red Devils couldn’t find a breakthrough.

Camron Mpofu squandered a prime chance to equalise, and Gazimagamed Ibragimov fired over during stoppage time as United pushed hard for a late leveller.

Also on the pitch was Jacey Carrick — son of ex-United midfielder Michael Carrick — with both the Red Devils icon and his wife Lisa also present to cheer on their son.

While the spotlight was on United’s famous footballing offspring, it was Southampton who lifted the trophy and took the glory back home.

Earlier in the tournament, Kai had gone viral for channeling Viktor Gyökeres with a mask celebration in the group stages.

United had topped their group and eased past County Down in the semis — but ultimately came up short when it mattered most.

Meanwhile, Rooney Sr is set to work as a pundit for Match of the Day next season.

The BBC have tied the England icon down, with the former striker set to provide his analysis of Premier League matches.
