Boxing fans are desperate to see Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua finally lock horns

Eddie Hearn has urged Tyson Fury to "put us out of our misery" and confirm whether he will come out of retirement for a potential super-fight with Anthony Joshua.

The promoter has appealed to Fury, who announced his retirement in January following his rematch defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December, but has since teased a comeback on social media.

"I feel like Tyson Fury's a bit of a tease really, isn't he? I mean, all we see on Instagram is him," Hearn told Sky Sports.

"Even today, I've come out of the press conference, went on Instagram, he's there with his wraps on doing 12 rounds of boxing.

"Why are you doing this to us?"

Hearn revealed that Joshua will soon undergo keyhole surgery on his elbow, but insisted this creates an opportunity for the British blockbuster bout once his fighter recovers.

"Look, AJ's got to have a little keyhole surgery on his elbow. He'll be back post-September. It's there, isn't it? Let's just make it happen," said Hearn.

The timing could align perfectly for a late 2025 showdown, with Joshua expected to return to action in the autumn.

Hearn believes there is now a "clear path" to making the fight happen, but stressed they are "reliant upon Tyson Fury" to commit to coming out of retirement.

According to Hearn, making the fight is now easier than ever before, requiring just "one phone call" to finalise terms.

"Previously, one had a belt, one was the challenger. One was unified, me and Frank Warren never spoke, me and Tyson Fury didn't get on. That ship's sailed now," Hearn explained.

The promoter highlighted how his improved relationship with Fury's promoter Frank Warren has simplified negotiations.

"It really is one phone call, just to say, 'here are the terms. You're both not champions at the moment, but you're both huge stars. Let's just get on with it and make it happen'," said Hearn.

Neither fighter currently holds world titles, which further simplifies the path to making the bout.

Hearn emphasised the magnitude of a potential Joshua-Fury clash, describing it as "the biggest fight, not just in British boxing, in world boxing, by a mile."

"I just feel like it's time. This is the moment," Hearn added, while revealing he is "quietly confident" the bout can be arranged.

If Fury decides against a comeback, Hearn suggested Joshua could pursue other options, including potential bouts with Dillian Whyte or Daniel Dubois.

"Dillian White's made his announcement. He's coming back in June as well," said Hearn.

"I know that one thing on AJ's mind is Tyson Fury. But it's kind of out of our hands."
