Sydney Sweeney has revealed she is considering a move into boxing after undergoing a major body transformation for her latest film.

The actress, who stars in the boxing blockbuster Christy, said that she had gained significant weight for the role and thoroughly enjoyed filming it.

The biographical sports drama explores the life of former professional boxer Christy Martin - often referred to as "America's most well-known female boxer" - and the rise of women's boxing in the 1990s, with Sweeney playing the lead role.

The screenplay also highlights hard-hitting topics, including the domestic abuse she endured, culminating in an attempt on her life by her husband and coach in 2010.

The American star said: "There was a moment in the middle of filming where I was like, 'Should I give it all up and fight because I love this?'".

"Christy (Martin) said sign me up so this isn't as hypothetical as you actually think it is.

"Yeah, I'd totally do a charity bout, that'd be so sick."

Speaking on who she would face in the ring, Sweeney told Sportscasting: "It's a surprise, you'll have to wait, I'm serious. You've got to stay tuned for the pay-per-view and you'll see it."

The Euphoria and White Lotus actress revealed she had gained over 15kg for the role by "pounding protein shakes".

Speaking on Good Morning America, she said: "For about two-and-a-half months, I would weight train in the morning for an hour, box three hours in the middle of the day and then another hour of weight training at night,' she said on Good Morning America.

"I put on 35 pounds and it was hard. I started losing weight once I upped my boxing time and had to find that balance. I was just continually pounding more and more protein shakes.

"I loved it. I worked hardest on that left hook and I think what would get me through a fight is that I can take a punch. I wouldn't quit."

Sweeney committed to three and a half months of full-time training.

Her daily schedule included an hour of weight training in the morning, two to three hours of kickboxing and boxing drills (including pad work, footwork, and sparring) in the afternoon, and another hour of weight training at night.

The actress worked with professional coaches, including Matt Baiamonte and strength trainer Grant Roberts, to ensure her portrayal was authentic.

She even suffered a concussion and bloody noses during realistic sparring sessions.
