Dillian Whyte and Moses Itauma touch gloves in an epic British boxing battle on Saturday

Speculation about Dillian Whyte's boxing future has emerged ahead of his Saturday clash with Moses Itauma in Saudi Arabia.

Long-term rival Derek Chisora has disclosed hearing whispers that the 37-year-old might retire if defeated by the 20-year-old heavyweight prospect.

"Dillian apparently said if he gets beat, he's going to retire, that's the rumour," Chisora revealed to The Sun.

The former rival expressed his desire to see Whyte triumph, despite acknowledging the challenge posed by Itauma.

The bout at the Esports World Cup Fight Week could mark a pivotal moment for Whyte, whose career appears to be approaching its twilight whilst facing an opponent many tip for future success.

The two fighters find themselves at contrasting career stages. Whyte secured victory against Ebenezer Tetteh last December, whilst Itauma delivered a devastating knockout of Mike Balogun in May.

At 37, questions persist about Whyte's remaining capabilities in the ring. The Brixton fighter has experienced three career defeats and faces a young opponent who has generated significant excitement within heavyweight boxing circles.

Itauma represents the new generation of talent emerging in the division. The 20-year-old's rapid ascent has caught attention, with many predicting a bright future for the prospect who has been "smoking everybody," according to Chisora's assessment.

Chisora's backing of Whyte stems from their shared history, having faced each other twice in the ring with Whyte victorious on both occasions - once by knockout and once on points.

Despite their previously tense relationship, Chisora expressed solidarity with his former opponent.

"I would love to see Dillian win," Chisora told The Sun. "Because Dillian is from the old school. I love Moses but I have shared the ring with Dillian twice and I've sparred so many rounds with him."

He acknowledged the difficulty of the task, adding: "I would love to see Dillian win it, but it's a long shot, because Moses is on the right track now."

Recent photographs have revealed Whyte in exceptional shape for the encounter.

Fans have remarked on his lean physique, with one noting it represents "his best ever condition" whilst another described him as "looking lean and mean."

The veteran has avoided weighing himself since December's victory over Tetteh, instead trusting his team's guidance.

"I've just been focusing on giving Buddy [McGirt] what he needs," Whyte explained, crediting his long-term support staff with managing his preparation.

The fight streams on DAZN Pay-Per-View this Saturday, with main event ring walks expected around 10:20pm UK time. UK viewers can purchase access for £19.99.
