Jake Paul took to Instagram to update fans on his health after undergoing surgery

Conor McGregor has offered words of encouragement to Jake Paul following the American's knockout defeat to Anthony Joshua on Friday evening.

The former UFC champion responded to Paul's hospital update on social media with a succinct message of support.

"Fair play! Well done," McGregor wrote beneath Paul's post from his recovery bed.

The Irishman's praise comes after Paul suffered a broken jaw during his sixth-round stoppage loss to Joshua at Miami's Kaseya Center.

McGregor had previously warned Paul about facing such a formidable opponent, stating before the bout that it "shouldn't go ahead" due to the dangers involved.

Paul confirmed on Saturday that his operation had been completed without complications at Miami University hospital.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer shared his gratitude for the medical staff who treated him, describing them as "gracious and caring" throughout his stay.

"Just got out of surgery. Everything went smooth. Thanks for all the love," Paul posted on Instagram.

He revealed that recovery would require significant dietary adjustments, noting he must consume only liquids for the coming week.

"Lots of pain and stiffness. Gotta eat liquids for 7 days," Paul added, thanking his support team for their assistance during his hospital stay.

Paul acknowledged the severity of his injury immediately after the contest, suspecting his jaw had been fractured during the brutal encounter.

Despite the painful setback, the American remained characteristically defiant about his boxing future.

"I think my jaw is broken. But that was good, I'll come back and get a world championship belt at some point," Paul declared.

He outlined his intention to compete at cruiserweight level upon his return, targeting a world title in a division more suited to his natural size.

The 27-year-old also indicated he would step away from the sport temporarily after six demanding years of competition.

"I'm going to take a little break. I've been going hard for six years," Paul explained.

Joshua's dominance throughout the contest culminated in a devastating right hand that sent Paul crashing to the canvas in the sixth round.

The referee waved off the fight immediately, handing the two-time heavyweight world champion and 2012 Olympic gold medallist a comprehensive victory before the packed Miami crowd.

Following his triumph, Joshua wasted no time issuing a challenge to fellow Briton Tyson Fury.

"If Tyson Fury is as serious as he thinks he is, and he wants to put down his Twitter fingers and put on some gloves and come and fight one of the realest fighters out there, step into the ring with me next," Joshua proclaimed.

Fury, however, announced his retirement after losing to Oleksandr Usyk.
