The Gypsy King lost for the first time as a professional on Saturday night

Frank Warren has fiercely defended Tyson Fury after he appeared to suggest Oleksandr Usyk only won their fight on Saturday night due to sympathy for the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Usyk won the bout on points, with the 37-year-old becoming undisputed heavyweight champion of the world in the process.

In the immediate aftermath of the defeat, however, Fury caused controversy by suggesting Usyk won due to sympathy for Ukraine.

“His country is at war, so people are siding with the country at war," he said.

“I believe I won that fight, I believe he won a few of the rounds, but I won the majority of them.

“We both put on a good fight. His country is at war, so people are siding with the country at war.”

Yet Warren has now launched a passionate defence of his fighter.

The boxing promoter has reminded the world that Fury is bipolar, having been diagnosed with the condition back in 2017.

And Warren says he's 'quite angry' about some of the things he's seen in the short time since the showdown in Saudi Arabia.

“I get quite angry. I’ve just got back and I’m reading some of the reports," he told talkSPORT.

"Tyson is bipolar. If you go on the NHS site and look at what the symptoms are of bipolar, some of the things is saying exactly what is on your mind.

“If it’s in your mind, you say it. That is one of the symptoms, unfortunately.”

Continuing his defence of Fury, he added: “Tyson, you look at him immediately after that fight, he kisses [Usyk] at least three times on the forehead and on the cheek.

“With Tyson, he’s said in the past, ‘I’ve retired’. And a couple of months later, ‘I’m fighting again’.

"That’s unfortunately one of the things that happens with people who suffer from a dreadful illness.

“It was called manic depression years ago, now it’s called bipolar.

"It’s all well documented the problems he’s had down the years. Tyson is a warrior."

Fury has suggested he'll do a rematch with Usyk.

Some, however, believe there's a possibility the Gypsy King hangs up his gloves after tasting defeat for the first time as a professional.

Yet Warren believes Fury will face Usyk for a second time.

"There was a rematch clause," he said.

"That was the condition that was required by the people who were investing in it and that is what is there. If Tyson wants it – and he’s said that he does want it – then it will go ahead."

As for Usyk, meanwhile, the 37-year-old is eager to relax and spend some time with his family after his latest triumph.

The Ukrainian also paid tribute to people in his homeland who continue to fight for their lives on a daily basis.

“Since 2008 I was planning for this. It’s not for me. It’s for my God, my supporters, my country, the Ukrainian soldiers, Ukrainian mothers and fathers, children," he said.

“But now I want to go to my home, I want to rest, and take a break.

“I want to eat, sleep, kiss my wife.”
