The Gypsy King has been backed to beat his Ukrainian opponent in May

Derek Chisora has backed Tyson Fury to 'walk over' Oleksandr Usyk if he makes a big change to his support team ahead of the May fight.

Chisora claims the Gypsy King would be in a great position to become undisputed champion if he had his father John as his main trainer.

Fury and Usyk will battle it out in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on May 18 after their original fight set for February was postponed.

A cut sustained by Fury in sparring saw the bout put back three months in what will be the first undisputed heavyweight clash this century.

The pair are both unbeaten at professional level and will put those records on the line.

Fury is currently trained by SugarHill Steward, a role he has held since the split with Ben Davison in late 2019.

But the WBC heavyweight champion has recently posted videos of him training with his father John.

Chisora claims having Fury senior in the corner during the fight with Usyk could make a vital difference.

He told Seconds Out: "Tyson looks good. I see his dad holding his pads for him.

"What people don't understand is a father and a son's bond when they train together is unbelievable. That's what people have to understand.

"If Tyson has his dad in his corner, he’ll walk over Usyk easily because he has his dad in his corner.

"That’s it, bro. It’s going to be a great fight."

Asked if his dad should be Fury's main trainer, Chisora replied: "He should be. He should be. His dad knows fighting.

"He grew up his whole life watching fights and fighting himself. So I think his dad should be his main trainer.

"At the same time his son will help. The way he's looking on the pads with his dad, he looks great."

Few people know Fury better than Chisora, having fought him three times in his boxing career.

He claims the 35-year-old will attempt to knock out Usyk to try and prove a point.

However, Chisora does not believe that is the best way for him to go.

He said: "Tyson's going to try and knock him out to prove something but I don't think he should try.

"He should try and box and just go with it. Remember Usyk, he has to make Tyson tired for him to win with a knockout."

Meanwhile, former cruiserweight champion Johnny Nelson has disputed claims he doesn't like Fury.

He told talkSPORT: "I don't dislike Tyson Fury, I just call out his BS, I don't dislike him.

"Those people around him are saying, 'Johnny Nelson this, Johnny Nelson that,' I don't dislike Tyson Fury because I think he's the best heavyweight in the world.

"But you've got people in your ear chatting foolishness just because that fits their agenda."
