The Gypsy King is currently preparing for his upcoming bout with Oleksandr Usyk

Frank Warren has claimed it would be 'poor' if boxing chiefs strip Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk of their IBF belt once their fight takes place next month.

The two men are currently training, with their battle due to take place in Saudi Arabia on February 17.

However, as the contest creeps closer, there are rumours Fury or Usyk could lose their IBF belt after the bout.

That's despite the pair being expected to have a rematch further down the line.

Warren has now been asked about the possibility of either fighter losing the belt.

And he's made it clear what he thinks, insisting it would be 'poor' for that to happen.

“We will see what happens after the fight," he told Seconds Out.

"I mean it would be pretty poor for them to do that but we’ll see what happens.”

When quizzed on whether he'd talked to the IBF, he added: “No. They have their views and they’re entitled to their views.

"If it’s a really great fight and it deserves a rematch then that’s what will happen.

“With Riyadh Season and the money that’s involved, the governing bodies are going to have to be a bit more sensible, and that’s how it is, ’cause I will see a situation where the governing bodies will just be ignored.”

There are just a few weeks to go before the fight.

And boxing fans from all over the world are expected to tune into the first heavyweight clash since the days of Lennox Lewis.

Fury will certainly have a point to prove, having underwhelmed against Francis Ngannou during their fight in October.

The Briton was knocked down in round three of the fight.

And though he won via split decision, he's been widely criticised for the way he performed.

Fury's father, John, has been among those to question whether the 35-year-old is still operating at the peak of his powers.

He's called on his son to alter his style for the fight with Usyk, believing he must play a tactical game if he's to reign supreme.

“He needs a different style altogether with Usyk, he’s totally different," said the 59-year-old.

"If you go back to, many years ago, you can watch it on the internet, it’s Gerry Cooney-Michael Spinks and Michael Spinks is a blown-up light-heavyweight weighing just over fourteen stone at the time.

"Gerry Cooney is six-foot-seven, eighteen stone, look what happened.

"These are speed-men, you just can’t have that straight-up, going forward, looking to land a bomb on these kind of fighters because guess what?

"They can see it coming and they will avoid it.

“Usyk is very good, he is a good mover, he’s got a brain, he’s got good footwork and the style for Deontay Wilder and Francis Ngannou isn’t going to cut it for a man like Usyk.”

Fury appears to be taking his fight with Usyk seriously and has cut a leaner, slimmer figure than before in pictures uploaded by a sparring partner.

Whether that's enough for him to come out on top, however, remains to be seen.
