The British boxing star appeared uncomfortable when asked about Dubois and Usyk clash

Anthony Joshua seemed reluctant to discuss the huge upcoming undisputed heavyweight fight between Oleksandr Usyk, 38, and Daniel Dubois, 27.

The bout is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 19, at Wembley Stadium and follows their first fight in 2023, in which Usyk beat Dubois in Poland.

This was only the second loss in the Englishman’s career, with his first coming at the hands of Joe Joyce in November 2020.

The Ukrainian, however, is unbeaten in 23 fights throughout his career, and currently holds the WBO, WBC and WBA Super heavyweight titles.

Usyk has an impressive CV, beating the likes of Tony Bellew and Derek Chisora. He has also beaten both Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua and two occasions respectively.

The latter also tasted defeat against Dubois back in September, who produced a spectacular knockout at Wembley to defend his IBF title after Usyk had vacated the belt.

Joshua, 35, was quick to separate himself from the upcoming fight, however, as he awkwardly refused to answer any questions relating to the heavyweight clash.

"I've got a few thoughts about it, but I feel like I don't want to talk too much”, Joshua told iFL TV, "Because it's not my fight, it's their fight. I don't want to promote their fight. I'll be honest with you, I don't want to talk about it."

After being questioned why he was hesitant to discuss the contest, AJ retorted: "Why are you asking me? Turn the camera off if you're going to ask me about it.

"You're asking me in front of a bright light in front of the media to promote your channel and their fight... I'm not doing it."

The news comes just after he confirmed this weekend that he requires elbow surgery, meaning he would be out of training for up to eight weeks.

The two-time former heavyweight world champion has not boxed since his defeat against Dubois, despite mounting speculation that he could face British rival Tyson Fury in a non-title bout - a fight that has always had potential but never gotten over the finish line.

Regarding his injury, AJ spoke to DAZN: "When do you want me back? I'm trying to get my body right. I have got to actually have a little surgery on my elbow.

"A small surgery sometime in May. I'm finalising the details," he continued, "That will see me out of the gym for maybe six to eight weeks, and then when I'm healed, I will be back."

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

AJ will be returning to the sport, but in regards to the fight that all boxing fans have wanted to see, he said: "I'll do everything I can to make it happen, and I'll hang around as long as I have to to make it happen. That's on my end, I can't control what another man is going to do."

It seems the ball is in the court of Tyson Fury for this one.
