King Charles and Queen Camilla will host the Macrons at Windsor Castle

King Charles, accompanied by Queen Camilla and members of the Royal Family, is holding a State Banquet at Windsor Castle tonight for the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron.

Earlier this evening, Kensington Palace confirmed to GB News that Princess Kate would be attending the State Banquet for the first time since undergoing cancer treatment.

The King and the President will both deliver speeches at the beginning of the banquet.

His Majesty, 76, will also be joined by key senior members of the Royal Family at Windsor Castle tonight.

Royals attending - Princess Anne, the Edinburghs and the Gloucesters

Among those joining tonight's royal gathering are the Princess Royal and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence.

Princess Anne, 74, will walk alongside Emmanuel Moulin, the French President's chief of staff, in the Royal Procession.

Meanwhile, Sir Tim will be joined by Professor Lorna Milne, a professor of French at the University of St Andrews, the same institution attended by Princess Kate and Prince William.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh will also be in attendance tonight, with Prince Edward walking alongside Hélène Duchêne, a French career diplomat, and Sophie walking beside Jean-Noël Barrot, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France.

Finally, the Duke of Gloucester will be accompanied by Lina Ghotmeh, a Lebanese-born, Paris-based architect, and the Duchess of Gloucester will be joined by Tristan Bromet, a special adviser to President Macron.

Royals who will be absent - the Tindalls, Lady Louise Windsor and the Yorks

Only working members of the Royal Family are permitted to attend State Banquets during official State Visits.

This means Prince Andrew, who stepped back from royal life in 2019, will not be in attendance.

Neither will his daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, despite the York sisters holding HRH titles.

The slimmed-down monarchy favoured by King Charles will also impact Zara and Mike Tindall, who live relatively private lives in Gloucestershire.

Lady Louise Windsor, 21, is currently a university student at the University of St Andrews, so she will not be in attendance.

Why Princess Kate's attendance is significant

Tonight will mark the first time since 2023 that the Princess of Wales has attended a State Banquet.

The last state banquet Kate attended was at Buckingham Palace in November of that year, honouring Yoon Suk Yeol of South Korea.

At the glittering occasion, she wore a Jenny Packham gown, paired with the Strathmore Rose Tiara - an item rarely seen in public.

Just last week, Kate opened up about her "rollercoaster" cancer recovery during a royal engagement at Colchester Hospital.

The future Queen also spoke about putting on a "brave face" and cancer's "life-changing" impact.
