Buckingham Palace announced the Duke and Duchess of York's separation in 1992

Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew have both remained silent on the anniversary of their royal wedding that ended in divorce.

The Duchess of York has 204,300 followers on X, 787,000 followers on Instagram, and 64,500 followers on TikTok; however, the former working royal did not publicly address her wedding that took place 39 years ago today.

The Duke of York, whom Sarah divorced in 1996, stepped down from royal duties in 2019 following his disastrous Newsnight interview, where he spoke at length about his friendship with the late sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.

As a result, Prince Andrew has lived a subdued life over the past six years, with his ex-wife and daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, often refraining from speaking about him in public.

Last year, the Duchess of York made headlines after she cut her ex-husband out of her wedding photos on social media.

Fergie made the Instagram post on the same day that A Very Royal Scandal, starring Michael Sheen as Prince Andrew, dropped on Amazon Prime.

The series was a dramatisation of the royal's 2019 Newsnight interview that resulted in the Duke of York's demotion.

At the time, Sarah took to social media with a message honouring her late mother, but chose some interesting photographs to accompany the post.

The first picture on Fergie's post was from her wedding day to Prince Andrew in 1986; however, the Duchess had deliberately cropped the duke out of the photograph.

Instead, it just showed Fergie and her late parents, Susan Barrantes and Ronald Ferguson.

On July 23, 1986, Fergie walked up the aisle in Westminster Abbey wearing a wedding dress designed by Lindka Cierach, a British couturier, to marry the Duke of York. The nuptials were watched by over a billion people worldwide.

Cierach's design featured ivory duchesse satin, heavy beading, and elements from Sarah's family crest and Prince Andrew's naval background.

However, the fairytale marriage did not last, with Buckingham Palace announcing the Duke and Duchess of York's separation in 1992.

The statement broke with normal protocol and expressed the late Queen Elizabeth II's personal unhappiness over the matter, and detailed Fergie's role in the split.

It read: "In view of the media speculation which the Queen finds especially undesirable during the general election campaign, Her Majesty is issuing the following statement: 'Last week, lawyers acting for the Duchess of York initiated discussions about a formal separation for the Duke and Duchess.

"'These discussions are not yet completed and nothing will be said until they are. The Queen hopes that the media will spare the Duke and Duchess of York and their children any intrusion.'"
