The message comes as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident that turned a day of celebration into tragedy.

Merseyside Police confirmed they have arrested a 53-year-old man from West Derby on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs.

The force believes the vehicle followed an ambulance into a packed central city street during what should have been a celebratory occasion.

Police have confirmed that four people remain "very ill" in hospital with serious injuries following the incident.

The 53-year-old white British man who was arrested is believed to have been driving the car down Water Street, where the tragedy unfolded.
