Sarah Ferguson does not feel any remorse and is burying her head in the sand following Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest, friends of the former duchess have claimed.
The former Duke of York was arrested on the morning of his 66th birthday on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
He was later released under investigation after spending 11 hours in police custody.
According to the former duchess’s friends, Ms Ferguson is “in the depths of despair".

The friend revealed: “She feels deeply depressed and that the world is out to get her. She is very, very down. Some people, including Sarah herself, are worried for her mental health.
“[But] what she doesn't appear to feel is remorse for what has happened. She just wants this to all go away and allow her to get on with her life. Her head is in the sand.”
Friends have told The Daily Mail the people she would “normally rely on” have “walked away” amid allegations in the Epstein files.
“The whole situation is toxic, no-one wants to go near it,” said one friend.
Sources close to the former duchess are worried about interacting with her as they are concerned she may be asked to cooperate with investigations regarding Jeffrey Epstein.
Another source said: “I am sure they will be keen to speak to her, that will be playing on her mind.
“The whole family is frankly finished. No one will open their wallets now.

| REUTERSMs Ferguson has stated in the past her regret with being associated with Epstein, saying: "I would never have anything to do with Jeffrey Epstein ever again. I abhor paedophilia and any sexual abuse of children. It was a gigantic error of judgment."
Appearing in the Epstein files is not evidence of any wrongdoing and inclusion in the documents does not implicate anyone in Epstein's criminality.
Ms Ferguson and Andrew have consistently and strenuously denied any wrongdoing amid the ongoing allegations.
