Devon Dorrall said he was 'effectively with Prince Harry' in a bizarre incident

A trespasser who made his way into the Houses of Parliament told officers he was there to "visit Prince Andrew and Prince Charles", a court has heard.

Devon Dorrall, 23, pleaded guilty to one count of trespassing on a protected site on November 30 at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

Dorrall, from Tilehurst, Berkshire, was said to have been suffering a "psychotic episode" after the "consumption of illegal drugs" when he told officers who had approached him that he was there to see members of the Royal Family.

He had first been spotted by a maintenance engineer, who noticed he had a visitor's pass but was unaccompanied, the court heard.

Malachy Pakenham, prosecuting, told the court the employee questioned Dorrall on what he was doing, to which he claimed he was a victim of a crime and was "effectively with Prince Harry".

The court heard Dorrall "stared in a manner which was described as threatening by officers" and told police "it was their fault" before calling one a "c***" and "became aggressive in his mannerisms".

"The officer asked him some questions about what was his purpose of his visit," Mr Pakenham said.

"(The) defendant said he'd come to the estate to visit Prince Andrew and Prince Charles from the Royal Family."

He was subsequently arrested. Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring said there had been no explanation on what the defendant was doing there, to which Yasmin Eshaghian, defending, replied: "I think that’s probably something he doesn’t know himself."

The court had previously heard of Dorrall's "psychotic episode" following his drug use, and also that he had been sectioned under the Mental Health Act and was living in a hospital facility.

The court also heard the defendant had been referred to the Prevent programme and he was displaying delusional characteristics.

Dorrall pleaded guilty to a separate offence, criminal damage to property, on Monday. The sentencing for both offences has been adjourned until December 1.

The court heard two days prior to the trespassing offence, Dorrall had thrown glass bottles at a bar, causing £800 in damages.

In his subsequent interview, the defendant said he had been "acting as a prat" and "hadn't got anywhere to sleep and, in his words, 'was wandering around aimlessly.'"

Mr Goldspring said: "The reality is that whilst you're subject to the mental health sectioning, it's difficult for this court to decide how to sentence you."

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said after the incident: "Police were called at 1.04pm on Sunday, November 30, to the Palace of Westm, inster where they arrested an intruder.

"He did not come into contact with members of either House."
