The Duchess of Edinburgh's dress also referenced a previous royal fashion trend

Duchess Sophie was seen paying a sweet tribute to her daughter Lady Louise as the Royal Family gathered to commemorate 80 years since the end of the Second World War.

The Duchess of Edinburgh was present alongside her husband Prince Edward during the ceremony in London on Monday.

While Louise is normally know to take fashion cues from her mother, it was Sophie borrowed an accessory from the wardrobe of the 21-year-old to match her pink look for the celebrations.

The Duchess wore a candy pink headband from Jane Taylor which was decorated with a sparkling assortment of beads, pearls and sequins that twinkled in the light.

The headband was previously worn by Lady Louise to Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations back in June 2022, where the mother-daughter duo coordinated in light pink and white dresses and headpieces.

Sophie’s beautiful accessory was previously debuted by Lady Louise at the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022.

At the time, the mother and daughter wore coordinated outfits – with Sophie donning a pink headpiece in a similar shade of pink to Louise while stepped out in white dresses.

Sophie's decision to wear her daughter’s accessory during VE Day proved to be a touching tribute, as Lady Louise was forced to miss the event.

Lady Louise and her brother James, Earl of Wessex were notably absent from Monday’s proceedings due to an apparent clash with their academic commitments.

While the Royal Family did not officially announce the reason for their absence, the children of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are currently immersed in their studies.

The 21-year-old royal is currently in her third year of an English degree at St Andrews University in Scotland while her brother is working hard on his A-levels.

This marks the second time Louise was forced to miss an event, having to drop out of the Royal Family's annual Easter celebrations due to her university career.

Lady Diana

Duchess Sophie's dress during VE Day was a reference Princess Diana's outfit from the 1990s.

On the day, Duchess Sophie paired her daughter sparkling headband with a custom-made pink gingham dress from Suzannah London.

The dress featured white accents and buttons with a structured neckline. Completing her ensemble was a pair of Prada heels in nude, a dark tan clutch bag and Dior pearl hoop earrings.

Royal watchers were keen to point out that Sophie’s outfit was a clear reference to Princess Diana’s button-down dress she sported in the early 90s.

While Diana’s dress shorter, with a knee length hem, both featured identical pink print, structured lapel and white buttons.
