Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex were notably absent from Monday's 80th anniversary VE Day celebrations in London amid a diary clash.
The siblings, children of Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie, missed the military procession and majestic fly past that marked the historic occasion.
Monday’s proceedings commemorated 80 years since the end of World War Two in Europe on May 8, 1945 and saw King Charles and Queen Camilla joined by Prince William, Kate and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis at Buckingham Palace.
While the Royal Family did not officially announce the reason for their absence, it appears their academic commitments took priority.

James, the youngest of the siblings, is currently studying for his A-levels.
Despite his academic focus, he did manage to attend the Easter service at St George's Chapel, taking a brief break from his studies.
Lady Louise, meanwhile, is in her third year at St Andrews University in Scotland, completing an English degree.

Lady Louise has embraced a quiet university life, deliberately maintaining a low profile and avoiding unwanted attention.

The royal has also participated in several student productions during her time at university.
Lady Louise is widely known to be considering a career in either the military or diplomacy after graduation.
Should she choose a military path, she would be following in the footsteps of her late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
The Queen made history by joining the Auxiliary Territorial Service in 1945, becoming the first female Royal Family member to serve as a full-time active member of the Armed Services.
