Princess Maria Carolina of Bourbon-Two Sicilies has survived a serious motorcycle accident after crashing headfirst into a wall.

The 21-year-old Italian royal shared multiple photos from her hospital bed on Instagram on Wednesday, warning followers about motorcycle safety.


"I'm incredibly lucky to be alive. I crashed headfirst into a wall whilst riding a motorcycle and ended up in reanimation in the Intensive Care Unit," the Duchess of Calabria and Duchess of Palermo wrote in her post.

She added: "Surviving this was nothing short of a miracle."

The eldest daughter of Prince Carlo, Duke of Castro, was hospitalised in intensive care following the accident.

The princess credited her protective gear with saving her life, emphasising the importance of proper safety equipment.

"I wanted to share my own experience as I've realised now more than ever that motorcycles are powerful and thrilling but also unforgiving," she wrote.

"Please ride with care. Wear full protection, especially a proper helmet. Mine saved my life," Princess Maria Carolina added in her Instagram post

The royal shared images showing her recovery in hospital wearing a neck brace, as well as a photograph with wires attached to her head during treatment.

Princess Maria Carolina expressed her gratitude to the medical professionals who treated her during the critical period.

"My deepest thanks to the outstanding team at Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace for their expert care during those critical days, and to the emergency medical team and first responders on the scene, whose quick and decisive actions in those first moments made all the difference," she wrote.

The royal concluded her Instagram message with a praying emoji, acknowledging the crucial role played by both the hospital staff and emergency services in her recovery.

The socialite, who lives between Paris, Monte Carlo and Rome, appeared to suffer the injuries just days after attending the Monaco Grand Prix over Memorial Day weekend.

She had shared multiple photographs on Instagram from the event earlier this week, including shots of herself in a blue halter-neck dress posing with a helicopter on the helipad.

According to the Royal House website, Maria Carolina works with various organisations including serving as an ambassador for the non-profit Passion Sea project.
