Queen Camilla’s meeting with Donald Trump hangs in the balance as royal battles health condition

Queen Camilla was forced to pull out of the Duchess of Kent's funeral this afternoon, less than 24 hours before the planned meeting with the President of the US.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement released this afternoon: "With great regret, Her Majesty The Queen has withdrawn from attendance at this afternoon’s Requiem Mass for The Duchess of Kent as she is recovering from acute sinusitis.

"Her thoughts and prayers will be with The Duke of Kent and all the family."

The Duke of Kent was informed of Camilla’s decision to miss the Duchess of Kent\s funeral and sent his best wishes for a speedy recovery.

The President of the US and First Lady Melania Trump will spend three days in the UK and carry out multiple engagements with members of the Royal Family.

If Queen Camilla recovers she will meet with the President of the US tomorrow.

Trump will become the first elected leader in modern times to enjoy two UK state visits, having previously been hosted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2019.

Last week, Buckingham Palace confirmed a change to the dates of Donald Trump’s State Visit.

Buckingham Palace outlined in its official statement in July that President Trump’s trip to the UK would take place from Wednesday, September 17th - Friday, September 19th.

However, the Palace confirmed last week that the dates of the State Visit have been moved to Tuesday, 16th - Thursday, 18th.

This move has resulted in the State Visit beginning on the same day that members of the Royal Family have attended the Duchess of Kent’s funeral.

Donald Trump is due to stay at Windsor Castle this evening after he lands in the UK.

The President of the US will then meet members of the Royal Family on Wednesday.
