Princess Charlotte is set to oversee Prince Louis' behaviour at this weekend's royal event, according to a royal insider.

Known for his cheeky expressions and lively antics, Louis has become a fan favourite at Trooping the Colour.

“Don’t worry, his sister will do that,” a source close to the Royal Family joked when asked who might keep Prince Louis in check during Trooping the Colour.

Princess Charlotte, 10, appears to be the steadying hand behind the scenes when it comes to overseeing Louis, seven.

The young Wales children are expected to appear once again at this year’s Trooping the Colour, a cherished royal event where crowds line The Mall hoping to catch a glimpse of the youngest royals.

In recent years, their balcony moments have become some of the most memorable.

The images of the growing Mountbatten-Windsor family help reinforce the Royal Family’s image of continuity and stability.

“Everyone loves a bit of positive news,” one royal insider continued to tell Hello! magazine.

They added: “And if the family can brighten up people’s days, that’s worth doing.”

However, there’s growing concern among some insiders that the balcony is starting to look a little bare.

Currently, only senior working royals are invited to appear alongside the monarch at major events like Trooping the Colour — a shift that insiders claim has lost some of the warmth and relatability the event used to offer.

“Looking back on the old photos, it seems a shame to only include the Wales children these days,” one insider added.

In decades past, the Buckingham Palace balcony was packed with cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren — many of whom were not full-time working royals.

That began to change ahead of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.

After a two-year break due to the pandemic, the Palace issued a rare statement: “After careful consideration, the Queen has decided that this year’s traditional Trooping the Colour balcony appearance on Thursday 2nd of June will be limited to Her Majesty and those members of the Royal Family who are currently undertaking official public duties on behalf of the Queen.”

The decision offered a diplomatic way to explain the absence of Prince Andrew, who had stepped down from public duties in 2019 after his infamous Newsnight interview, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who had moved to the United States and were no longer representing the Crown.

The more streamlined balcony also reflected King Charles’s long-held desire for a “slimmed-down” monarchy.

But some insiders and royal watchers are now questioning whether that approach has gone too far.

The absence of younger royals like Savannah and Isla Phillips, or Zara Tindall’s children Mia, Lena and Lucas, has left the balcony feeling somewhat sparse.
