The King and Princess of Wales are out of action as they recover from medical procedures

Princess Anne, Queen Camilla and the Duchess of Edinburgh are ready to step up this week as the only senior royals on public engagements.

As the King and the Princess of Wales remain out of action following medical procedures, Windsor's royal women are prepared to hold down the fort.

The Queen is expected to be out every day this week on visits. Today she began by opening a new Maggie’s cancer centre at a London hospital.

The Prince of Wales is also not able to perform any royal duties as he cares for his wife, Kate, and looks after their children.

Princess Anne, who holds the reputation of the hardest-working member of the Royal Family, will be doing two or three engagements most days this week.

The Princess Royal is expected to travel from London to Moray in Scotland, to Cardiff in Wales and then Wiltshire and Nottingham before returning home to London.

Yesterday, Anne opened the Platinum Jubilee stables at a centre for disabled horse riders in Nantwich where she petted some four-legged friends and spoke to some of the riders.

For the engagement, the Princess Royal draped a light blue scarf over a navy-blue jacket. She also wore a very fitting golden pin of a horse on its hind legs.

The Duchess of Edinburgh is set for a royal engagement in Surrey this week as her husband, Prince Edward, takes a break following his recent trip to South Africa and St Helena.

By Wednesday next week the Duke of Gloucester, 79, will come back into the royal workforce closely followed by the Duke of Edinburgh on February 8.

During her visit to the London hospital today, the Queen gave the first health update on the King’s health stating that he is “getting on” and “doing his best.”

The Duke of York and the Duke of Sussex who would have previously been able to fill in the gaps are no longer working members of the Royal Family.

In 2023, the King carried out 516 royal engagements closely followed by the Princess Royal who had 410 and the Duke of Edinburgh with 259.

Queen Camilla undertook 218 engagements; the Duchess of Edinburgh 179 and William and Kate took out 175 and 134 respectively.

Royal Family members often travel worldwide for official duties, with Prince Edward recently returning from the remote tropical island of Saint Helena.

During his visit he met the world’s oldest living land animal, Jonathon the 191-year-old tortoise, who has also been visited by the late Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, the Queen Mother and King George VI.
