Princess Anne’s “lovely” nature was praised as she stepped out in Northern Ireland today.

The Princess Royal visited Londonderry and County Fermanagh on Wednesday during her trip overseas.


After speaking to students at South West College’s Erne Campus Anne also visited the Enniskillen Workhouse.

Two students who greeted the princess spoke of her “lovely” nature and effort to promote the area.

Jamie Livingstone said: “To be chosen out of all the students here at South West College means quite a bit…she was just really lovely to talk to.”

Princess Anne visited the £30million campus based at the site of the former Erne Hospital to recognise the college’s “commitment to education, sustainability, community.”

Linda Thompson, a second student told the BBC: “She’s really promoting the area and letting everyone know that we do exist in Northern Ireland.

“She was a lovely person, she’s really down to earth.”

On her arrival at the college, the princess was greeted by Celine McCartan, principal and chief executive of South West College.

Students also presented the royal with a number of gifts including a bouquet of purple, yellow and white flowers.

McCartan said about Anne’s visit: “Welcoming Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal to the Erne Campus has been a pleasure for me and the wider South West College team.

“The Princess Royal demonstrated a very keen interest in the work of our students and staff across all curriculum areas and was impressed by the sustainability credentials of the wonderful Erne Campus.

“The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the college’s commitment to further and higher education, sustainability and community engagement.”

At another point during her visit to Northern Ireland, Anne was pictured with a shovel planting a tree.

The princess looked chic for her trip today as she stepped out in a matching green tweed suit.

She paired the outfit with a black shoulder bag and gloves and brightened up her look with a red scarf.
