The Princess Royal's trip was said to underscore Britain and Ireland's 'deep and enduring friendship'

Princess Anne wore a meaningful green ensemble with a nostalgic brooch during her meeting with Irish President Michael D. Higgins and his wife, Sabina Higgins.

The Princess Royal was visiting the emerald isle to mark the 150th anniversary of the Dublin Horse Show.

Ahead of visiting the show, Anne stopped by the official residence of Ireland’s head of government, Aras an Uachtarain.

The 74-year-old royal was pictured speaking with Higgins and his wife while sporting a mint-coloured coat, pale green shirt and forest toned skirt.

She accessorised with navy gloves and a metallic blue scarf.

The outfit appeared reference Ireland’s characteristic association with all things green and the national colour of Saint Patrick’s blue.

Beyond the meaningful association, Anne’s outfit also held nostalgic value for eagle eyed royal watchers.

In another fitting association, the Princess Royal previously wore her mint coat during Ladies Day at Royal Ascot in 2019.

In an unusual move, she stepped out in the same outfit while alongside her mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, at Holyrood House in Edinburgh just days later.

While meeting Higgins, Anne also sported a fetching gold horse brooch which again called back to her passion for equestrian sports the nature of her visit.

The impressive accessory was fitted with glittering diamonds accents in the mane and tail of horse.

It proved to be another treat for observant royal fans as the Princess Royal debuted the piece at the Cheltenham Festival last year.

Evidently, the royal was a fan of the brooch as she wore it three days in a row during the event.

Anne’s “courtesy call” with the Irish President was celebrated by Britain’s ambassador to its closest neighbour, Paul Johnston.

“The Princess Royal's visit underscores the deep and enduring friendship between the United Kingdom and Ireland, and the significance of the 150th holding of the RDS Dublin Horse Show,” he said.

“Her visit this week reflects her lifelong interest in equestrianism and charitable work,” the diplomat added.

The meet was Princess Anne's second appearance at the presidential residence, having previously called there in February 2004 when Mary McAleese held office.

During her visit to the Royal Dublin Society, Princess Anne will view a dedicated display chronicling a century-and-a-half history of the city’s horse show.

Her itinerary includes meeting with delegates from equine welfare organisations, specifically Festina Lente and the Riding for the Disabled Association Ireland.

The Princess Royal will also present ribbons to victors in the events Small Hunters competition, which awards shorter breeds of horses.
