Princess Anne has arrived in Guernsey to represent King Charles at celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Channel Islands' liberation from German occupation.

The Princess Royal, accompanied by her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, will lead commemorations on behalf of His Majesty on this significant milestone.

The visit comes as the Bailiwick concludes a week of celebrations commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe.

Between 1940 and 1945, the Channel Islands were the only part of the British Isles under German control during World War II.

German forces formally surrendered on 9th May in Guernsey, with neighbouring Sark liberated the following day.

Princess Anne's packed schedule includes a parade, church service, and meetings with survivors who experienced the occupation firsthand.

The Princess Royal began her day at St. Peter's Port seafront, attending the Liberation Day parade commemorating Guernsey's freedom from occupation.

During the ceremony, Her Royal Highness received the Royal Salute before inspecting the front rank of the parade.

She was escorted by Lieutenant-Governor Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell and Parade Commander Lieutenant Commander Tim Slann.

Princess Anne also inspected The Royal Marines Band as part of the formal proceedings.

A highlight of the parade was the Princess delivering a special message from King Charles to the people of the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

The Princess Royal also met with representatives of Guernsey's Wartime Generation during the event.

She spoke with delegates from Biberach-an-der-Riss, the German town where over 1,000 deported Guernsey residents were sent during the occupation.

Following the parade, Princess Anne will attend a commemorative church service at the Town Church, St. Peter Port's parish church.

The annual Liberation Day service brought together veterans, occupation survivors, visiting German and French officials, and emergency service representatives.

Anne will then join St. Peter Port Parish's 80th Anniversary celebrations, where she listened to the Festival Choir sing in Guernésiais.

The Princess met several occupation survivors including Roland Duquemin, who remained in Guernsey during occupation and recalls King George's post-Liberation visit.

Before departing St. Peter Port, Princess Anne will unveil a plaque officially opening the new Visitors' Centre.
