The royal adopted for a relaxed outfit overseas

The Prince of Wales could easily have been mistaken for a spy thriller protagonist as he toured Saudi Arabia's AlUla oasis city on Wednesday.

William, 43, struck a striking resemblance to Tom Hiddleston's Jonathan Pine character from the BBC hit The Night Manager during his walkabout with local artists.

The heir to the throne sported rounded grey-framed sunglasses from London eyewear brand Finlay & Co, paired with a check jacket and open-collared shirt.

The £160 'smoke' grey Marshal shades, combined with his relaxed ensemble, drew immediate comparisons to the John Le Carré adaptation in which Hiddleston portrays a hotel manager recruited into espionage.

During his exploration of the AlJadidah Arts District, the prince chose dark trousers with a light blue patterned shirt left open at the collar, topped with a patterned grey jacket.

The combination proved remarkably similar to an outfit Mr Hiddleston wore in the second series of the BBC drama, though the actor opted for light blue tones rather than grey.

Both men completed their looks with matching rounded sunglasses.

William changed later that day for his visit to Sharaan Nature Reserve, switching to a khaki green linen shirt with his dark trousers.

Eagle-eyed viewers would recognise this as near-identical to Pine's attire in the opening episode of series one, when the character assists a wealthy hotel guest.

The prince's apparent admiration for his fellow Old Etonian's wardrobe extends well beyond this Saudi visit.

William has been mirroring Mr Hiddleston's aesthetic for several years, favouring a modern, relaxed approach over traditional formal royal attire.

During the final leg of his Caribbean tour in March 2022, the prince was photographed alongside the Princess of Wales wearing a cobalt blue linen shirt, dark shorts and a simple baseball cap.

This blend of sophistication and casual ease appears to page homage to the Hollywood actor.

The Loki actor was spotted in Manchester in 2023 wearing a grey linen shirt with a navy baseball cap and chinos while out with his first child with actress Zawe Ashton.

The parallels extend to formal occasions as well.

At the 67th Evening Standard Theatre Awards at Claridge's Hotel in 2023, Hiddleston cut a distinguished figure in a bottle green velvet jacket with black formal trousers, matching footwear and a bow tie.

That very same month, William appeared at the Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony in Singapore wearing a strikingly similar green velvet jacket, black trousers and bow tie.

The pair also share a love for grey suit jackets worn with shirts but without neckties, a combination Mr Hiddleston frequently adopts while in character.

This preference for open-collared elegance appears to have become a signature element of the prince's evolving wardrobe.
