How much influence did Prince William have in casting out Andrew?

On Thursday evening, Buckingham Palace announced the King had begun the formal process to remove Andrew’s royal titles, styles, and honours - a decisive blow to Queen Elizabeth II’s so-called “favourite son.”

In a further humiliation, His Majesty has exiled his disgraced brother to the Sandringham estate, owned privately by the Mountbatten Windsor family.

Not only does this mean Andrew is no longer living effectively rent-free in a Crown Estate property, but it also places him far away from the Prince and Princess of Wales' new "forever home", Forest Lodge on the Windsor estate.

There has been much speculation about how much influence Prince William had in the decision to cast out Andrew once and for all.

The whole saga has clearly been damaging to the monarchy and has continued to overshadow the royals' public work.

Both the Queen and the Duchess of Edinburgh support victims of sexual abuse - work perhaps tarnished when a member of their family is accused of carrying out such abuse.

Mr Mountbatten Windsor continues to deny all the allegations against him.

As future King, William will be very mindful of the public mood and the need to keep citizens onside if he is to have a successful succession one day.

He has already publicly indicated he plans to change the monarchy when the time comes and is reluctant to stick to the status quo.

Perhaps this is why many have speculated whether it was really Prince William urging his father to take such firm action against his brother.

However, I understand the ultimate decision came from the King, and Prince William fully supports his father's leadership.

Perhaps this was obvious; William was clearly uncomfortable when his uncle tried to make light conversation with him in front of TV cameras at the Duchess of Kent's funeral earlier this year.

The atmosphere could best be described as frosty.

The Prince of Wales will hope to keep Andrew firmly out of his mind as he prepares to embark on his first official visit to Brazil next week to attend his environmental Earthshot prize and represent his father at the United Nations Climate Conference in Belém on the world stage.

Meghan Markle's loyalties questioned as she attends baseball game with Prince Harry

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex appeared to have a far better week than Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

They were all smiles, sitting in front row seats, on Tuesday evening to cheer on the LA Dodgers at game four of baseball's World Series.

Some questioned Meghan's loyalties on social media; the LA Dodgers were playing the Toronto Blue Jays.

Before Meghan met Prince Harry, she spent a lot of her time living in Toronto while she was filming the hit US TV series Suits.

When the couple dramatically stood back as working members of the Royal Family in 2020, they initially moved to Canada before settling in Los Angeles.

Meghan had also previously supported the Toronto Blue Jays, who beat the LA Dodgers 6-2 on Tuesday, pictured wearing the Canadian team's baseball cap in 2015.

It appears Meghan's loyalties have shifted, as she pursues her business interests in the city of angels.

David Beckham to be knighted next week

At long last, arguably the most famous footballer on the planet is being knighted by a member of the Royal Family.

Ever since David Beckham was pictured at Prince William and Catherine's 2011 wedding, proudly wearing his MBE medal, many have speculated he's been hoping for a knighthood.

At long last, he is receiving one for "services to sport and to charity" in King Charles III's Birthday Honours list 2025.

As well as making 115 appearances for England's national football team, Beckham has been an ambassador for UNICEF since 2005.

More recently, however, David Beckham has become closer to His Majesty, becoming an ambassador of the King's Foundation in 2024.

He supports the charity's programmes, giving young people access to nature, rural skills and craft-based workshops.

He also shares a passion for the countryside with the King, including beekeeping and sustainability.

Buckingham Palace has not confirmed which member of the Royal Family will be knighting Sir David Beckham next week.

If it is King Charles himself, however, I suspect the ceremony will have an added poignancy.
