Zara Tindall and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are not expected to take on royal roles under Prince William’s future reign, according to reports.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are planning a dramatic break with tradition by becoming the first monarch and consort in more than a millennium not to live in a palace or castle.
Instead, they want to create a home life that feels as normal as possible, a retreat from the scrutiny and presence of courtiers that defines royal life.
When William becomes king, the number of working royals is predicted to shrink to just five or six.

This is roughly half the current figure and only a third of the total at the height of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.
“William won’t have cousins helping him like the Queen [Elizabeth] did. So he’ll have to work smarter,” one royal source told The i.
This approach is expected to see a shift towards short-term initiatives and joint charity projects, rather than each royal acting as patron to hundreds of organisations.
Princess Anne, who turned 75 on August 15, has signalled she is prepared to continue working.

| PAMeanwhile, Edward and Sophie, once seen as minor royals, are tipped to play a far more significant role in both this reign and William’s.
However, their children, Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex, will not join the royal payroll.
Prince George, now 12 and heir to the throne, is expected to begin royal duties in the future, possibly after military service.
But it is still unclear whether his siblings, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, will pursue their own careers or serve as working royals.

“William and Catherine are modern parents. They may have their thoughts, but I think they’ll wait to see what the children want to do,” a former senior aide said.
They noted that the option of Charlotte and Louis working outside the family has not been ruled out.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as working royals in 2020, so they will not be carrying out any duties in William's reign.
The same rule will apply for their children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four.
