Prince William is set to attend the FA Cup final on Saturday, just a month after he suffered heartbreak alongside Prince George.

The final will be contested between Crystal Palace and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.

Manchester City secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest in their semi-final match in April.

Crystal Palace inflicted a hammer blow on Aston Villa's season as the Eagles defeated the Birmingham-based club 3-0 in the other FA Cup semi-final.

Villa's painful FA Cup exit came less than two weeks after Prince William and Prince George watched on as their team were knocked out of the Champions League.

Prince William and Prince George attended both the first leg in Paris and the second leg in Birmingham of Aston Villa's quarter-final clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

Villa won the second leg at Villa Park 3-2 but lost the tie 4-5 on aggregate after suffering a 3-1 defeat in France.

The exit from the Champions League and the FA Cup in the space of a fortnight ended Aston Villa's hopes of winning their first trophy since 1996.

Aston Villa's season could still end in success, as the Birmingham-based club battles to secure a place in next season's Champions League.

The club are currently sixth in the Premier League with the top five teams gaining entry into the Champions League.

If Aston Villa finish sixth in the Premier League, they will be rewarded with a spot in the Europa League, with an additional Europa League place being awarded to the winners of the FA Cup if they finish outside the top six positions in the Premier League.

Manchester City are on track to secure Champions League qualification but will need to gain four points from their final two Premier League matches to be certain of their place in European football's premium club competition.

The Prince of Wales attended last season's FA Cup final between Manchester United and Manchester City.

Despite Manchester City being the favourites, Manchester United secured a 2-1 win in the derby match.

Crystal Palace, who have never won a major trophy in their history, will be hoping to inflict back-to-back FA Cup final defeats on Manchester City.
