The Prince and Princess of Wales celebrated their wedding anniversary in Scotland last month during a royal engagement

Princess Kate and Prince William are set to visit Glasgow for the naming ceremony of HMS Glasgow at BAE Systems' shipyard in Scotstoun.

The royal couple will attend the event where the Princess, who serves as the ship's Sponsor, will officially name the state-of-the-art Type 26 anti-submarine frigate designed to protect the UK's nuclear deterrent and aircraft carriers.

The royal engagement will take place on Thursday May 22nd.

The Princess of Wales was appointed as Sponsor of HMS Glasgow in June 2021.

During the upcoming ceremony, she will perform the traditional naming ritual by releasing a bottle of whisky that will break against the ship's hull.

This centuries-old maritime tradition marks the official naming of the vessel before it enters service with the Royal Navy.

Following the ceremony, the Prince and Princess will tour HMS Glasgow and meet with representatives from BAE Systems who have been overseeing the ship's delivery.

They will also engage with Royal Navy personnel who will explain the unique capabilities that the vessel will offer to the UK's defence forces.

The royal couple will then visit the BAE Systems' Shipbuilding Academy to meet apprentices and graduates.

They will learn about the maritime training these students have received in various craft trades including fabrication, electrical work, sheet metal work, welding, and pipefitting – all skills that have directly contributed to the construction of HMS Glasgow.
