The Sunday Times assessment only includes personal assets when calculating the sovereign's wealth

King Charles III's personal wealth has increased by £30 million over the past year, reaching £640 million according to the latest Sunday Times Rich List.

This makes the 76-year-old monarch twice as wealthy as his late mother Queen Elizabeth II, whose fortune was valued at £370 million in 2022.

The King has seen his wealth rise from £610 million last year despite facing health challenges as he continues to undergo treatment for cancer.

The monarch has benefited from the investment portfolio he inherited from his late mother, which forms the bulk of his wealth.

Charles now ranks joint 238th in the list of the UK's 350 wealthiest people and families, climbing 20 places from his position at 258th in 2024.

His fortune now puts him on equal financial footing with former prime minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty, who are also worth £640 million after seeing their wealth drop by £11 million in the past year.

The King's wealth also places him £140 million ahead of David and Victoria Beckham, who are valued at £500 million.

The King's personal wealth includes his private estates Sandringham in Norfolk and Balmoral in Aberdeenshire, both of which he inherited from the Queen.

The Sunday Times assessment only includes personal assets when calculating the sovereign's wealth.

It does not include the Crown Estate, which has seen soaring profits thanks to wind farm deals, nor the Duchy of Lancaster estate or the Crown Jewels, which are held in trust by the King for the nation.

As Prince of Wales, Charles received a private income of up to £23 million a year from the Duchy of Cornwall estate, which has now been inherited by Prince William.

The Sunday Times Rich List, released on Friday, reveals the wealth of the 350 richest individuals and families in the UK based on identifiable wealth including land, property, other assets and significant shares in publicly quoted companies.

This 37th edition of the list registers the third consecutive drop and the biggest fall in the number of UK billionaires in its history.

The number of billionaires in the UK has fallen to 156 from 165 in 2024, representing the sharpest decline in the Rich List's 37-year history.

This drop comes as the UK suffered the biggest fall in billionaires on record following Chancellor Rachel Reeves' recent non-dom tax crackdown.
